Low on power

Would a bad cat cause power loss. I can hear it rattling bad, definately needs to be . replaced.

I've cleaned the TB, IACV, new air filter, plugs, oil change. It seems to be running a lot better than when I bought it but still feels sluggish. It also kind of hesitates at low rpms.

I tried to check the cel but realized the lights out, I think someone unplugged it

Any ideas would help

Re: Low on power

I don't think so, I got underneath it and everything looks fine, just when you shake the cat, you can hear the internals moving around. Also while driving you can hear it rattling

Re: Low on power

I've changed the spark plugs but not the distributer cap

The rattling is from the cat I'm sure of, but basically just wondering if that would cause a power loss

Re: Low on power

cats purpose its just suck some bad wastes of the exhaust gases, so if it doesnt work properly, they just flow out and can be seen as failed emissions, really it hasnt that much doing with power loss

ever done valve adjustment? or then one way to find out if everything is ok is compression test

Re: Low on power

a bad cat definitely contributes to power loss. the downstream o2 sensor thinks that the car is running too rich. the ecu tries to compensate. just change your cat since you need to anyway.

Re: Low on power

if ur cat rattles its def. bad and probably clogged to which will raise back pressure and thats why it hesitates at low rpm..change that rattlin' son of a bitch and i bet u see an immediate change for the better bro...im a tech at a shop and what u said definitly sounds like a bad cat..

Re: Low on power

Low Compression could result in loss of power, you should go do a compression test.

Re: Low on power

Vacuum leaks, fast idle thermo valve, misfire, o2 sensor, throttle positioning, the timing could be off. As you test different things, make sure you are at operating temp so the FITV is no longer functioning and the o2 is functioning

Re: Low on power

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to buy a cat this weekend any good sites?

Also I did a compression test last night a and the number 1 cyl had 150psi. The rest were close to 180-185. Would this be bad enough to cause a sputter at idle. Every few seconds it will bog down. Adding oil to the cyl brought the compression up btw
