Trouble with rack and pinion boots.

I just got the wheel off, and I am now trying to remove the tie-rod. But the tie rod will not budge. :c It seems as if may be under tension?

Re: Trouble with rack and pinion boots.

you have to loosen the jam nut at the end of the tie rod end. then it should be fairly easy to just thread off the outer tie rod end. then you will be able to remove the clamps on the inner tie rod boot. remove the boot then the end of the inner tie rod end just threads onto the rack assembly itself. easy in theory but difficult cause of limited space. good luck.

Thank you! I had a feeling it was that jam nut towards the P.S Rack. It's a little bugger to unloosen. Cause I can't get much leverage on it due to space. :/

Re: Trouble with rack and pinion boots.

there is a special tool that slides over the inner tie rod and aids in its removal . without the tool it can be a total pain in the ass .. outers are easy inners are a bitch ..

Inner Tie Rod Tool - LIS-45750

this is the kind that works on hondas best if you wanted to get one ..

Re: Trouble with rack and pinion boots.

I looked into getting that tool, but I ended up just pulling them off. they weren't hard at all. The only issue were applying the new crimp bands. One was a bit shorter, but I used a temporary zip-tie until I can get a properly sized one even though it should of been the proper size.
