new lude owner now what

whats up fellas just bought me a 97 lude with 68,000 miles on it leather interior its the blue'ish silver color, manual trans. Car needed a bumper, fender and a piece of pipe that was by the cat but i fixed that for $150. It was a older lady original owner so i think at 4 G's it was a pretty good deal but besides those 3 defects the car is in mint condition. I already put my system in, clear turn signals, Real jdm fogs, clear corner light and a mujen CAI. So now what?

Re: new lude owner now what

Now what? come on! whole forum to explore for awesome ideas of what to do next.

I recommend checking out member build threads for all kinds of ideas.

Good job on the restore and sounds like a great deal for that low of mileage.

Re: new lude owner now what

Alright I'll see if I can make it, hopefully my car will be lookin mint by that time. Well I got a new bumper same color local for $80 I'm hopin the fender can be banged out and the other defect was $150 so didn't have to put that much into it. I got someone who's gonna paint it for $800 cause I think I want a white one wit the black roof, hood and trunk. I may do another color combo not sure yet I'll see se colors when I see the dude. But yea I think I got a good deal nothin else wrong wit the car as of yet and there's new belts on it plus the body is mint besides bumper and fender also leather is in good condition. One thing is I can't figure out if it's a SH or not. I Was readin the 5th gen sticky and i thought it said any manual prelude is a SH but I dunno bout that

If the dash dont have the atts light on the right hand side of cluster, no SH, do you have courtesy lights in your door panels? where is your third brake light?

And definitley take a day off and come out to the Tri State meet, you will not be dissapointed!

Re: new lude owner now what

Use the search button, thats what. It's all up to you. For the same reason that there is thousands upon thousands of car types out there, there are hundreds of ways to make your prelude YOURS. So check out the member's ride thread, pick up a Honda Tuning or Modified mag, and see what you like. Preludes are one the hardest Hondas to search for in terms of aftermarket upgrades, so you really have to be intentional about it. If you want to know more about the car, check out this thread(even though you've already bought it): Some General tips about 5th gens. There are plenty of guys on here that have done a crazy amount of upgrades, no upgrades, and everything in between. Do what you want to do, and not what everyone tells you you ought to do. Although you can take suggestions that you like and use them if you like them. Again, I can't stress enough the importance of doing what you like, and also I'll add the importance of not going with cheap parts, especially from eBay. Do your research, use that search button, and mainly, enjoy yourself. Best of luck to you my friend, and get some pictures of that thing up ASAP! Oh, and Welcome!

Re: new lude owner now what

Welcome to the site bro! Manual does not mean it's an SH it's just that there is no such thing as an auto SH.
Is the third brake light in between the rear speakers? If so it's a base.
Are there lights on the bottom corners of the doors? If so it's an SH.
Does it have stock rims? The fan blade looking ones are base wheels.
Like SoFlaKiddd said a 5 in the 8th digit of the VIN means it's an SH.

There are plenty more ways to check but these are some obvious ones. Post some pics and we can let you know for sure!

I just noticed this reply. You are indeed right about doubting that statement, as you must have read it wrong. It's the other way around. All SH's are manuals, but not every manual is an SH. And Travis, I actually never knew that. I need to add that thing about the VIN # to the Buying a Fifth Gen thread. I also need to add about the light on the door.

I didn't realize you were asking for mechanical opinions, but more of the same thing applies there, really. It depends on your funds and what you want to do. Do you want to do an all-out build? If so, you have to decide between N/A and F/I(naturally aspirated and forced induction). You can go all out: Bore it out, sleeve it, get new pistons, connecting rods, do a tune,(For all things N/A, refer to member 98vtec. He's done it all). Or, you can upgrade some of the internals and slap a turbo on it(along with all it's associated parts). Heck, I've even seen a dude supercharge the thing. He had to do some serious readjusting of things in the engine bay, but it can be done. You can "stance it": figure out some sort of lowered set-up(springs, coilovers, etc), throw some dope wheels on it and call it a day. Again, check out other MR threads for other ideas. I hope that better answered your question.

Yeah surprisingly most people don't know those two!
Here's a link to the light in the door panels that only SH's have:

Coilovers man. It all depends on your budget though. You can get some Function Form Type I's for around $600 and most people will agree that those are the best for the price! You can also get strut bars, sway bars, control arms, better tires and many other things that will help you handle better. Just research first and avoid off brand or cheap parts!
