What is this?

Hey guys i just wanted to know what this tube is and if i should be worried that its hanging off like this when i brought my lude i looked at 3 different ones and all of them looked like this but i have been looking at fellow member's ludes and theirs are taped up nicely. so just would like some knowledge on that and also if some one can point me to a tutorial or description on how to replace a distributor seal will be greatly appreciated i just changed my vc gasket (oil leak) and now i have to change the distributor seal but have no idea how to do it but i do know how to get the actual distributor off.

Re: What is this?

That tube just holds the wiring to your alternator, as long as no wires are exposed you are good to go. Just pop the distributor out, replace the O-ring, and put it back in. The distributor can only go in one way, so you don't have to worry about putting it in backwards.

Re: What is this?

That's simply a plastic cover that covers some wires. As long as the wires underneath it are in good condition, I wouldn't even worry about it.

Re: What is this?

If it is leaking internally,(inside the cap) then yes you need the seal, if it is leaking between the head and the distributor then it is the Oring.
