Newb build thread

Hey guys! Figured I'd start a thread for my progress on my 5th gen. Not sure where to put this so i'll toss it here unless a mod decides to move it!

Well, for starters the car is an '98 Auto with 160k. Stole the car for $1200 with a fried transmission. Car came with lambo doors, aged two-tone paint, ricerdude body kit, filthy engine bay, and a wiring nightmare. Yeah I've got my work cut out for me

Plans for now are 5spd swap, engine bay shave and tuck, full tune-up and timing job, repaint, interior redo, and coilovers among other things. The idea is to have the car ready and on the road by June. Seems forever away since I've never driven this car or anything with VTEC for that matter lol Hopefully this car will be fun as my Cobalt SS was

Re: Newb build thread

Here's a couple pics of the lude:

First thing I had to do was get rid of the lambos! Just not my thing and besides...they cut the door harnesses to pieces

After that I started ripping the interior apart. Car was originally green so it had the tan interior. Never been a fan of tan soooo that has to go as well. Redoing all of the tan plastics with SEM satin black. So far I've finished all of the plastics other than the door panels. Here's a pic of the dash to show how the SEM looks. FYI the top half of the dash is still the factory finish

Carpet was pretty filthy

Cleaned it up best as i could and changed the color using Duplicolor fabric dye. I've used it in the past with good results. Besides, we 5th gens have no other options Love it or hate it, I went a little wild and changed the color..just a little

Re: Newb build thread

That poor Prelude, what did the last owner do to it?

1200.00 was ransom. Please restore that car to it's factory state please. Change some other cloth panels to red also, door inserts, head rest, center back support and seat, you can get creative, Just don't go overboard. Get 2 more S2K rims, and 5 speed swap. Honda Gods will shine upon you for rescuing that prelude.

Welcome to Preludezone.

Re: Newb build thread

5th gens can have red - tan - or black carpets using factory parts.

Although dying/painting things is cheaper, and tan wasn't quite your style - it's more of an uncommon and rare interior color than you would ever imagine....

Vtec isn't anything special - nearly every car has a form of it nowadays anyway lol

Looks like you've got one hell of a project on your hands, i'm sure it'll get moved to the members rides section - interested to see the progress

Best of luck, and although a challenge - have fun with it!

Re: Newb build thread

Looks like a fun project, but more importantly it looks like you know what your doing mechanically and ultimately (returning it back to "stock-like" and gettin rid of all the rice, good to see! )

That red carpet actually came in JDM/EDM Motegi editions I believe?? Someone correct me on the model if i'm wrong. So it actually doesn't look that bad. Agreed, some S2K seats will make that interior poppp!!

Re: Newb build thread

Thanks for all the input guys! One thing I may have failed to mention is that I've been parts hoarding since I purchased the car. Some of the things I have so far:
-full new Mugen replica kit, stock rear bumper and a cf hood---scored all of this for $300
-non lsdTransmission, shifter w/ box, shift cables, mount, set of axles, 3 center shafts, manual ecu(not using)---all for $160
-Greddy Emanage Blue. Complete w/ all optional harnesses and tuning software---$300
-Red Tenzo R seats leftover from another project. Don't bash, they'll work until I find a local set of red bride or recaros.
-new slave and master, rywire clutch line, fidanza 8.5 flywheel, AEM fuel rail, Pioneer p2300dvd, harness bar,oem honda timing belt and gaskets, and other stuff I know I'm forgetting.

Quote:
at least change some other cloth panels to red also, door inserts, head rest, center back support and seat, you can get creative. just don't go overboard
Shifter boot, ebrake boot, and armrest covers will soon be on the way from RedlineGoods. All In red Bride material.

Sure do...UGLY

Again thanks for all the Input guys! I'll upload more pics tonight of the engine bay progress. So far the ac, ps, cruise, and emmisions have been removed. Getting ready to tackle the ABS then it'll be time for the engine to come out!

yeah but only for fuel economy. honda is like the only one to ever use it strictly for performance like they have in some of their cars (S2K, lude, teg, si/r, etc.) and now it's outdated technology and nobody wants to use it for performance like honda has because FI is more feasible.

Re: Newb build thread

Alright guys, little bit of progress yesterday. Finished eliminating everything from the engine bay other than the ABS which ill save till the motor's out. Also went ahead and pulled the radiator out and got that out of the way.

Couple random pics of the progress under the hood and some more of the interior:

Re: Newb build thread

Not much progress today. Started to tuck some wires away, got the fuse box in the cabin, and removed the 10lbs of pine needles out of the wiper cowl.

Trying to tuck, hide, and eliminate as much as I can before I pull the engine&transmission. FYI all the green tape you see are plugs that will be eliminated and blue tape will be kept.

Bay is getting fully shaved and painted soon as the weather allows me to pull the motor&trans. No Idea what color to paint the bay though..leaning towards satin or gloss black. Thoughts?

No Progress worth mentioning. Mainly just parts coming in the mail. Just Ordered a AFCO radiator that should tuck under the core support quite nicely
