Re: amp cooling help please!

I have a 1000w amp. I cut some thin wood strips, maybe 1/2-3/4in tall, drilled holes through them where the amp mount tabs are, and placed them between the amp and where it's mounted. That way, the bottom has a little bit of airflow rather than being pressed up against carpet and the box. Mine has a cooling fan in it so that helps I'm sure, but I'd also suspect there's a bit of heat buildup on the underside of yours.. Worth a shot anyway, All you really need is a couple longer wood screws than you're using, and a couple tiny pieces of wood. I painted them black so it wouldn't look so ghetto.

Re: amp cooling help please!

You could make some sort of home-made cooler using computer fans. I've done this a few times and works well. :)

Re: amp cooling help please!

wouldn't the extra fans just blow hot air around?

Re: amp cooling help please!

Air circualtion is air circulation; and amplifiers need as much as you can give em. A well designe amplifier is contructed in such a way that the heat is directed toward and "released" through an internal heat sink which is then attacehd to external fins or other such design as to promote cooling.
Not knowing what kind of amp you have, you need to just do what Lindso suggested and get the amplifier "suspended" to get more airflow around it.

Also, not know what Kind of amplifier and how you have it hooked up is a HUGE factor as well. aka: do you have it parallel wired to run 2 or 1 Ohm? this causes more heat too and plays a geat factor in how an amplifier works.
