Re: changing tie rods

have you had the tie rods inspected if it is just the tie rods easy fix which is most likely the problem. You can do an easy check by lifting the front end and rock the wheel back and forward as if you were turning the wheel or have someone rock the steering wheel while you put your hand on the tie rod to check for play/ popping check inner then outer I am a ASE certified suspension tech so let me know if you need some more advise.

Re: changing tie rods

Do you mean the rubber boot ripped, exposing the gears on the tie rod? Can you change just that boot?

Re: changing tie rods

If the boot is just torn then you can get the boots and replace them but you need to make sure the tie rod is still good because when the boot tears it can let it dirt and other material but if its just a torn boot just remove the outer tie rod and lock nut and replace the boot.

boots have been exposed for quite a while and ive been told by my boy who works at a shop that i need to replace the tie rods. so imma replace them soon so everything should be new. i wont have to take the whole steering rack off or anything right?

Re: changing tie rods

No you can pick up a universal tie rod tool or just grab the inner socket with vise grips or crecent wrench but the actual tie rod toll will be easier and its pretty cheap but the ball socket part of the tie rod just unscrews from the Rack when your working on the left/drivers side turn the steering wheel to the right and vise versa for the other side it makes it easier. Just be sure to get it aligned after because your toe will be off and try to count the number of times the outer tie rod spins to come off so you can get it back as close as possible to where it was.
