92-01 Honda Prelude H22 T3/T4 Turbo Kit with Turbonetics Turbo Charger

I drive a 2001 prelude se. Its an automatic but also has the tiptroic sport shift option. I am looking at putting a turbo into it and i was wondering if someone could tell me what i would have to do before installing the turbo and if this is a good turbo kit to invest in 92-01 Honda Prelude H22 T3/T4 Turbo Kit with Turbonetics Turbo Charger - FastWayRacer.Com . Also how much would it cost to do a conversion from automatic to manual transmission? thanks

A lot more than just buying the turbo "kit" and slapping it on, some of the more technical guys can probably help you out. As far as I know(and I'm a suspension guy so i very well may be wrong so don't quote me) but just about anything you can think of haha it takes a lot of work lower compression pistons, sleeves, machine work to the block and head etc.. It's a lot of work but is by no means impossible, it ha been done before Also a 5spd swap haha. Anyone else wanna help our friend out?

Welcome to the site by the way!

Don't even think about anything like that until after you've successfully completed a 5 speed swap.

Thank you! I have heard of people installing turbos in vehicles with automatic transmission though?

The prelude auto tranny can't withstand too much added horsepower....plus it just is a terrible transmission. if you are going to do the swap yourself there are many threads on here about what you need and how to go about it...if you are going to have a shop do it for you expect to pay $2000+

Re: 92-01 Honda Prelude H22 T3/T4 Turbo Kit with Turbonetics Turbo Charger

Ive found that labor for a 5spd swap can cost anywhere between $800-about $1500. parts can cost up to about $1k-$1500 depending on what trans, clutch, flywheel u use.

Re: 92-01 Honda Prelude H22 T3/T4 Turbo Kit with Turbonetics Turbo Charger

Technically speaking, an automatic transmission is better for turbo applications than a manual. The PRELUDE automatic transmission though, is a totally different story. Don't do it, just worry about the 5-speed swap first, and then read all the stickies in this section; Forced Induction - Honda Prelude Forum.

Or read first, then swap, I don't care. Either way, use the search button or you're gonna catch **** from everyone for asking a question that has been posted every week for the past 104 weeks.

Re: 92-01 Honda Prelude H22 T3/T4 Turbo Kit with Turbonetics Turbo Charger

Lol you'd only really benefit from it if you're racing it (at the track!). It's a lot easier to stay in boost with an automatic than it is to learn to keep the throttle open while you're shifting. If you're not gonna be tracking the prelude and don't care about quarter mile times, then your are correct sir..no fun at all.

No actually a automatic is better for boosted applications. When you have manual you actually loose boost between gears. Yes you have a clutch to help build boost but automatic is better for racing. Manuel is way funner by all means!
