Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

First I've got to say that since discovering this forum, it's been a daily read, something to help me stay (relatively) sane while stuck at work, a lot of great info here. I have a '99 Prelude that I bought from the dad of a good friend who died in a motorcycle wreck a couple years ago. He hadn't had the car very long, but did a few things to it as money and time allowed, including installing an Extreme Dimensions R34 front bumper. The bumper had a crack in it and I was looking to replace it anyway, but on my way home last night, a large suicidal cat decided to end it all, and ran out in front of me. This was the result:

So I've been looking at various options, and I'm wondering if I should pay to have the OEM bumper put back on, of if I should pick up another aftermarket bumper. From what I've seen, the OEM bumper has more hardware inside it, lights and such, that aren't present in the aftermarket, I'm assuming that's not exactly cheap either. Price isn't a huge problem, but I always like to get the best deal. Thoughts anyone?

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

OEM looks best imo...especially considering what that cat did to your current bumper.

front bumper will be easier to find as well, keep an eye out on junkyards/part outs. if you're lucky you might even find the same color as your car...erm...nvm, aftermarket paint.

Yeah, the car sat in a hauler trailer for the better part of 2 years, defogging the headlights is one of many things I plan to do to it.

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

from what the pictures show, you seem to have a pretty good looking prelude. i personally don't think that r34 kit looks bad at all.

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

OEM would be my choice but if you want a body kit style then i recommend a Polyurethane body kit and Avoid a Fiberglass one or ABS Plastic one. Or you can get a Duraflex body kit.

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

Judging from your side skirts, you probably have the whole R34 body kit. Unless you also plan on converting yout side skirts and rear bumper back to OEM stuff, I would prolly just get another R34 bumper but try finding it in urethane.

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

Oem front sides and rear would be nice if you want to spend around $1200 or more to buy the lip kit and have it painted and installed. Going with another kit front end would be the cheapest option especially if you can find one painted ebp already.

Re: Another aftermarket bumper or go back to OEM?

If the kit is all the same, save yourself the cash and just find a stronger replacement.

But looking at the damage...Christ almighty how big was the cat that you hit?
