Replace engine or rebuild it?

So my crankshaft pulley came loose to the point where it shredded my belts and did significant damage to my crankshaft. Read about it and see pictures in this thread:

Crankshaft Pulley is not spinning/belts shredded

So I've been researching and can't find any significant information on how to replace a crank shaft on this car. At this point I'm wondering if it's even worth it. Are there any "how to's" out there showing this process?

I'm also throwing around the idea of rebuilding the engine or just doing an engine swap. The engine runs great but it seriously burns through 3-4 quarts of oil every 300 miles. No leaks.....no black smoke....the oil just disappears.

Does anyone have suggestions on what would be the best option? I'm not looking to do any engine mods or make this car faster. It's just my daily driver.

Thanks in advance.

Jake

You planning on doing the work yourself, or paying a shop?

Re: Replace engine or rebuild it?

I'm fairly confident I could replace the crankshaft by myself if I had a write up to go by.

If it came down to an engine swap I'd have a shop do it because that's a little out of my league.

I'm just hesitant on what to do based on how many miles are on it and how much oil it burns.

Re: Replace engine or rebuild it?

if you have the time then throw in a new crank yourself. and i'm thinking about rebuilding my engine this coming winter when i put it away again. but i will be just replacing all gaskets, seals, bearings and piston rings. if you just did that and gave everything a proper cleaning then it shouldn't be burning oil anymore.

Honestly, its completely opposite. A motor swap by yourself is prolly 5 times easier than rebuilding the internals of an engine.
A motor swap only requires your basic tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, extensions, pliers, etc, and is basically "bolt-in".
Building the internals is muchhhhhhh more in depth. Especially once you start getting into bearing clearances/tolerances, torque specs and sequences, piston ring gaps, all of which require their OWN special tools, micrometers, calipers, feeler gauges, torque wrenches, assembly lube, just to name a few.

Re: Replace engine or rebuild it?

Ludes are oil hogs, but 3-4 quarts is a bit much
