non sh auto to manual.. need help

hey guys and thanks for reading this. about 7 months ago my buddys prelude lost 3 gear in the auto.. so he found a guys selling everything to do a five speed swap.. only he didnt give us everything. we got the tranny, linkage, shifter, pedals. and the steel and rubber lines, master cyl, slave cyl.. anyways. the car does run right now and does drive with the swap complete. but now i bought the car off him and i wanna do the harness swap and the manual ecu swap. i have the manual ecu harness new from honda still in the box. now if i buy the manual ecu off ebay. will the new harness and ecu start the car or will i have to have it reprogramed. i already called the honda dealer here and they said they would not even touch the car and had no idea if it would even start if i swapped ecu's and the harness. (immobilizer) i have all the keys including the red key. all i wanna know is if i buy the base ecu and take out the auto engine wiring harness and replace everything with the manual ecu and harness will the car start with my immobilizer and key? thank you

There's a writup on Honda tech on how to fix your auto ecu to make it a 5spd, that way you won't nerd to buy another ecu plus pay to have it reprogrammed

If the 5th gen harness is anything like my 4th gen harness then there is no reason to swap your harnesses when doing a manual to 5speed swap. There were only a couple plugs that go to the transmission that I had to delete.

I dont know if it's possible with an OBD2 ecu but I have successfully jumpered a P28 auto and made it into a manual ecu. Another option that you have is to change over to OBD1. You would need the OBD1 ECU, distributor, conversion harness and I am sure there is something I am missing as I have never done it but I am sure someone else will chime in that has

Andd ohh yea, welcome!! :)

Re: non sh auto to manual.. need help

see thats the problem. honda wont touch the car to even reprogram the car. they said since the car was not factory 5 speed they will not even look at the car... weird right... what a load of crap. and the only reason i cant go obd1 is because NY state inspection. anything with a check engine light fails inspection. the car has to have everything that it had bone factory stock. so what your saying is that if i change the ecu and wiring harness the car will not start.

Re: non sh auto to manual.. need help

You can still use your auto motor harness, but there's a lil resistor in the ecu that'll need to be moved so that your ecu will now be reading as a 5spd. Here's a thread to.check out The official auto to manual ECU conversion thread - Honda-Tech
