Engine smoking

Hey everyone one i have a issue with my prelude. When i start up the car smoke is coming from the engine but it dies out after a few seconds. i think its because of my exhaust pipe. i had a silencer covering it and i dont think it was letting out enough of the exhaust fumes. i removed the silencer and my car began pumping out alot of smoke now it kind of died down to a little. Do you think it may have just been exhaust build up?

Re: Engine smoking

A little smoke on startup is probably just some oil seepage through the valve seals burning off the top of the pistons. Nothing to worry about, so long as it's not excessive.

Re: Engine smoking

white smoke?
blue smoke?

typically a silencer won't cause the motor to bog down and die... unless you're just referring to the amount of smoke?

white smoke usually means head gasket related issue

blue would just mean you're leaking oil from either the valve seals or spark plug gaskets

Re: Engine smoking

you might have a small oil leak and its hitting your exhaust... as it heats up it starts smoking ...I had this issue too it was oil filter was loose
