5g Prelude H22a Distributor problems

Hi, not sure if this thread is in the right place. I have a 2000 Honda Prelude with an H22A motor swap at the time of the swap the tech put in an h23 distributor, ran just fine vtec ran well. Now my distributor broke so i towed it over to the shop and got them to swap distributors with a brand new one from JDM , they say its the right one for this car. Everything runs fine except it wont engage into vtec anymore? As for CEL i have misfire codes from the day of the swap due to the fact i have an obd2 computer running my obd1. the codes i read are misfire cyl 1,2,3,4 . Random misfire and mutiple misfire. I had these codes even when i was running the old distributor and still engaged into vtec. These guys don't know why its not engaging any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take it to a Honda specific shop. its probably in the wiring, from when they did the swap.

That's weird.. I've got a jdm h22a with jdm distributor and I too get those codes but my vtec engages well.. and I'm on to my second distributor too. I know vtec wont engage if your running in closed loop so maybe one of the sensors in the distributor is throwing the ecu into closed loop?

Re: 5g Prelude H22a Distributor problems

If I remember correctly the jdm distributors have internal coils and the usdm distributors have external coils. Maybe that's the problem? I could be wrong though I haven't been around in a while lol

you are right but my USDM computer seems to use the internal coil fine and vtec engages without issue
