My Gas Guzzling Prelude

I recently just got my prelude, and I LOVE IT, just having a hard time with it's gas consumption. Right now, I'm doing about 320 to the tank, driving normal without kicking in the vtec. That's with city speeds of 35-50mph and highway speeds of 65mph max.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or do I need to do something?

Re: My Gas Guzzling Prelude

Just got my 99 prelude a couple days ago and its looking like ill also be getting about 320 to the tank which seemed a little low. In to see what others are getting out of their full tanks.

You definitely don't buy a Prelude for the fuel economy. 19-21 in-town, 24-26 highway.

You can get a full tuneup to start off if your car needs one, should increase mpgs slighty...

Yeah, I'm finding out the hard way. How many miles do you get to a tank and is there a difference when you let the vtec kick in?

Yeah I hope that helps cause gas prices are going up and I heard they might reach $5 a gal.

I average 17mpg. My car never sees the interstate or speeds above 60mph... meaning 100% city driving with an 80% chance of VTEC engagement at some point in the trip.

At this point it doesn't really matter if you go above 60mph the difference isn't much. Before I did my test I would flow with traffic going 70-90mph not really using the vtec and I'd get about 300-315 miles to the tank.

I've gotten more than 30mpg's on the highway.... I'm pretty sure there's a thread on here about this already

My H22 averages 340-360 per tank in-city. Guess that's not much better than 320 on a tank though.

340-360 is better than what I'm getting, and would make a difference.

I'm curious does everyone run premium?

I rarely fill my tank to full, I get about 230 to half a tank in my 3rd gen, city and highway combined.

Re: My Gas Guzzling Prelude

If you want a gas saver then get a civic or integra. Otherwise 320 is pretty much what every other prelude gets with the H22 or H23. The F22a1 isn't all that much more better just like 2-4 more MPG but thats about it.

Every thread has a douche bag, I guess I just met mine..
I pretty much got that from what everyone said, if I want a civic I'll go get one.
But thanks for your input, it's appreciated.

Re: My Gas Guzzling Prelude

Lol I did 300 on a tank once and thats because I was granny shifting for a whole week. I usually get 270-280 miles a tank. The car is way too much fun to be worried about fuel consumption lol. And yes I only run premium. It's worth it.

Re: My Gas Guzzling Prelude

i get 400+ to about every tank. with mutliple hits of vtec likely per trip in my car.

Try changing your fuel filter and running a seafoam treatment through your brake booster line. Also clean your throttle body plate and make sure your intake filter is clean. Stay away from sheets or Shell as i have found their gas blows!

if you have vtec than you have h22 and shouldn't be putting anything lower than 93 octane in your tank. It sounds silly but i actually saw a difference in gas mileage when i switched to nitrogen in my tires!

And last but not least lighten up your car! Ludes are very heavy compared to other hondas if you really are that worried about gas mileage take out some stuff from the car you dont need. I.E : windsheild wipers (haha) back seats, stock seat belts, get a CF hood. Anything to lighten the load, plus you'll go faster!

just my 2 cents lol
