HID fogs relay harness

Hey ladies and gentlemen. I just put in a pair of v.2 fogs and am getting HID's for them later this week. I have seen threads that mention getting a relay harness for them. I'm not really knowledgeable with electrical work so I am not sure about the following question. Is the relay harness absolutely necessary? If so do I have to get a harness for each foglight/HID?

Thanks in advance,

Honor

Re: HID fogs relay harness

Depends - are you running a factory wiring harness/relay and switch?

Or do you have a custom harness setup?

Whichever you have - all you need to do is make sure your relay is rated for the proper amperage draw for the HID kit. Same goes for your fuses and wire size (if it's a big draw).

And remember, replica fogs are plastic vs JDM fogs that are glass/metal.

Re: HID fogs relay harness

Alright, I am running the wiring harness/relay and switch which came with my JDM fogs which does indeed have the glass lens/metal backing. As for your comments about amperage. I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge but I have no idea what that means lol.

These are the one's I ordered.

Re: HID fogs relay harness

i may be a bit rusty on my math... but It looks like 7 amps max. I don't have a factory harness with my JDM fogs so i'm honestly not sure what size fuse comes stock.

If it's at least a 10 amp fuse and relay with your new harness, than you'll be fine.

Re: HID fogs relay harness

uhmm I looked at the fuse but im not sure how many amps it is. The actual fuse says 30 on it but i doubt its referring to amps. The relay says 12V/72A on it. any thoughts on that?

Re: HID fogs relay harness

The number on the fuse is the amperage of the fuse.

So you have a 30 amp fuse and a 72 amp relay. 12v on the relay is standard because our cars are 12 volts.

Sounds to me like you should be fine (going by the max wattage draw from your HID's etc) Either way, worst case scenario is you blow a fuse. Then upgrade from there - but i honestly don't see that happening.
