98 prelude headlight bulbs NOT H1?!?

My fiance and I got a 98 prelude for her and tonight I was trying to change a bad bulb in the headlights. I had gotten a new set of H1 as all the sources I could see said was the fitment for this car. It was originally a Canadian car. Is that why the bulbs are different? seems odd to me. They are bigger then H1 and have two tabs. the plugs are stock but have 3 tab holes though only 2 wires and they go to opposite tab holes. So the tabs on the bulbs are parallel. The old bulbs a sylvania but didn't have a size on them. What the heck size are these? help.

Thanks,
MSW

all 5th gens use h1 bulbs for both high and low beam lighting. You'll need to pull the bulb out of the bulb holder in order to put the new one in. Here's a pic to give you an idea of how it all looks

^^^ your pic doesn't seem to be working for me, although that could be just my laptop.

Prelude1897 is right though, you have to pull the bulb out of the connector. By the sounds of it that's what it is. The fact that the bulb looks part of the connector is probably making you think it's different to the H1 bulb. Can you post up a pic though just so we can confirm?

Thanks guys! the diagram explains everything. Is there a location on the board where I can get the factory repair manuals? I love experts and I really appreciate you guys having the answer. Now I can get some decent bulbs in the car and the lights working good. Prelude 1897 I'll be getting to you in the future for some projectors.
Thanks again,
MSW

Good working lights are always important
Here's the link to the online manual, or at least all the chapters in it, my advice is to download them and save them on to your computer, they come in extremely useful!

I'm having the same problem. Do I just plug the bulb into any of the 3 slots of the connecters? I'm so confused. Pictures would be nice.

Or maybe i'm missing the light bulb holder or adapter? I bought the car with a hid kit on a stock headlight and i can't see anything on the road at night. I'm trying to change it back to stock.

Yea, definitely hit me up when you're ready. As for a manual, you can DL them online and just burn it onto a cd or save it on your computer.

Headlight bulb

This diagram is correct as it works on my vehicle. Would like to commend you for sharing this to this thread. Anyway, is there any way to prevent headlight bulb from getting blown out? Gotta heard about halogen from several vehicle owners but i wonder whether the same thing is in touch with ludes...
