Old Catalytic Convertor Value

Today I replaced my old cat with a new one. I was wondering how much I could get for it. Have any of you sold your old cats? When I shake it I can feel and hear something shaking in there. Would this make it worth less?

Re: Old Catalytic Convertor Value

Take it to a scrap yard and find out - it varies state to state/county to county

Re: Old Catalytic Convertor Value

You can prob get at least $40-$60 for it. That shaking inside is the honeycomb that came separated which is made out of precious metal like platinum, palladium and rhodium. That's why you can get such good scrap money for them. Some cats the scrap yard will give you close to $100 for.

Two years ago, we had some thieves break into a lot down the street that my work uses to park cars and trucks we couldn't fit on our dealership lot. They stole a total of 26 catalytic convertors from all brand new Tundras and Tacomas. They just unbolted the exhaust systems, cut the O2 sensor wires and threw all the cats over the fence. Those cats were like $720 new, so they prob got good money for them for whoever stole them.

Re: Old Catalytic Convertor Value

I talked to one of my friends and they said it may be hard to sell because of all the people that go and cut off catalytic convertors off of cars. In my hood this seems to be a big deal.
