Icon7 Finally installed my ignition upgrade PIX*

After a few weeks of craziness at work, I finally had a day off and some time to install my MSD-6AL ignition controller, distributor cap and rotor, and Blaster 2 coil. I have a set of Magnecor wires on the way but it was time to get the damn thing in.

Installation was a bit of a pain... the old rotor was stuck on and had to be coaxed off with a screwdriver and busted knuckle; the MSD controller was pre-owned and all wire colors were faded so I had to figure out what everything was. After I got it sorted I installed the controller, used the stock coil bracket for the Blaster 2, and got all the connections soldered, wrapped, and covered with wire loom. When the moment of truth came, she started right up and purred like a kitten.

I have to say I can definitely notice a difference in response. Before installation, I drove a "test course" around my neighborhood (approximately 2.6 miles) at predetermined speed and shift points, just for comparison. Once installed, I drove the same course and both myself and my passenger felt and heard the changes. While I'm sure the MSD didn't add horsepower, acceleration and idling have smoothed considerably. We were extremely skeptical that there would be any improvement at all, but the difference is actually quite noticeable.

Anyway, on to the pix...

Re: Finally installed my ignition upgrade PIX*

So basically this takes the place of the original external coil that our USDM preludes have?

Yes... I modified the original coil bracket to fit the MSD coil.

Re: Finally installed my ignition upgrade PIX*

I might just have to add this to my to do list. Is MSD the only company out there that makes this set up?
