Re: alternator belt

If it slips off - you clearly don't have enough tension. In the manual there is information based on how much tension you need on the belt.

cpncnc is infamous around these parts
Re: alternator belt

Is your alternator somehow not sitting at the same angle as ur crankpulley? If it is(which it should be) then not enough tension

Re: alternator belt

Why are you changing it in the first place? Was it shot and cracked or freying? Or did you decide to replace it because it fell off and you thought you needed a new one? If it fell off before you changed it, something is not lined up right like what ^^"cpncnc"^^ said. I have heard of crank pulleys that start to get a wobble and end up throwing the belt off.
If you were just changing it because it was old and had some cracks, you prob just didn't tighten it enough. General rule of thumb is...You should tighten a belt to where you can only twist the belt about half way in the center of the longest section.

Re: alternator belt

Figured it out, replaced the belt cuz it was cracked and frayed, turns out the internals of the alternator were shot and the pulley was WAY too loose. New alternator later and she's runnin like a dream again! Thanks!

Re: alternator belt

Wow that alternator pulley must of been SHOT if it had enough play to make the belt come off. It must of been making a loud noise too, No?

Re: alternator belt

I didn't notice it until I replaced the alternator and the noise was gone, so much better now!
