In need for Front Speaker Upgrade

Hey guys ive had this prelude for about a year now and its served me pertty good, repaierd a thing here and there but so far its been good. My speakers have always rattled sincei purchased the car. Well i want to upgrade the frotn speakers right now and the rear speakers in the future. IM looking at the these speakers JBL GTO938

JBL GTO938 2012 - TopTenREVIEWS

IM curious is they will fit with modification. I will most likely take it to a professional. I would like to know what i need to look for when purchashing my speakers.

Re: In need for Front Speaker Upgrade

They will fit in the rear but not the front. Front speakers are 6 1/2 component set. Look at jbl gto608c that the type of speaker system you want for your door speakers.

Go to crutchfield.com
They will tell you what will and will not fit without modifications
I purchased the Sony's. Fit without modifications and sound great

Might want to try again.
Here is the site I just went to for many Prelude speakers. Hope it works for you.

if you choose prelude as car, and then hit "front door" speakers, it only shows two kenwood 6.5s

Re: In need for Front Speaker Upgrade

There's a limited Selection through Crutchfield for front speakers in a Fifth Gen, as it has about 1.5" of allowable top-mount depth. In order to fit any speakers in the front (that are worth buying) you have to take and cut out the back of the speaker basket. Leave the mounting ring around the door panel, but cut out the webbing/mesh behind the speaker, then you have about three to four inches of clearance for speaker depth. I'm not sure about what you need to do for a fourth gen Prelude.

Re: In need for Front Speaker Upgrade

Ok I see what you are talking about now, I did not push the front speaker hyperlink.
Use to show a set of Sony speakers.
I will get the model numbers from the invoice Monday and let you know which models worked from me.

Re: In need for Front Speaker Upgrade

The previous owner of my 99 had already cut out the back of the speaker basket and installed some Polk db Series 6.5" speakers (which have decent bass, but ZERO treble. I've got a set of Alpine SPS-610C speakers on the way, I just hope the aftermarket tweeters will install in the factory place.
