Icon13 My lude needs prelude zone's help....

Hey everyone, i have a 2000 Honda Prelude type SH, everything stock, and i believe it has a lot of problems wrong with it and i was wondering if you guys can help figure out what each problem is and or how to/how much to fix it. I dont have access to jacks, tools are limited, i'd really just like to get this car reliable for another 3 years, but the fact it has about 150,000 miles on it im thinkin it wont.

Alright here it begins...

1) My lude is leaking oil, i have to put oil in every other month or so. It leaks from the bottom and around the valve gasket it appears to be a little dirty of oil. (i did wipe the valve area previously and its not too dirty there) Im also in need of a oil change, the service indicator is red...

2) My check engine light and atts light are on, i've taken it to a mechanic and the codes were reading the cat converter isn't working (i live in cali). do you think i would need to replace the o2 sensor and if i continue to delay fixing the cat until time for smog, is it going to harm my car in any way?

3) Both front seat belts are tearing and catch the buckle and dont retract. I took it to the honda dealer and they said they couldnt do anything about the belts themselves, but as for the failure of retraction, i have to sandpaper it down, but they wont do anything. I've read of people elsewhere who take it in and they get theres fixed?!

4) just noticed this today, when the rpm are between 1 and 3 (and usually when im accelerating) it begins to make a noise that sounds like its coming from the front, like mrrrrrr (and no its not the engine, its an unusual noise)

5) finally after i drove my lude for under ten minutes today, there was a little bit of white smoke coming from my exhaust, is that indicative of something wrong?

How F**k** am i?

hmmm there are some issues here me thinks...
our engines are known for consuming a little oil. but you should get those leaks fixed if you think they are leaks.
i'm not sure about your codes.. a catalytic converter doesnt just stop working. those things last forever if they aren't simply murdered. so you might want to get a second opinion on that one.
as for the seat belts, they are covered by a lifetime warranty so take it back to the dealership and tell them to **** off.
i dunno about number 4
and number 5, usually white smoke indicates that you are burning coolant which means a coolant leak somewhere.. blue smoke means you are burning oil. so that would be something worht looking into for sure before it gets worse or before its to late and causes more damage.
hopefully i'm not the total bearer of bad news...

I know how you feel. When it comes to the dealer stuff, Id say be a hard nose with them. I've had dealers try and dick me over many times and just had to be a dick with them or go somewhere else.

Re: My lude needs prelude zone's help....

ok i've been working on cars for some time now and two of your problems may be the same the low oil and white smoke may indicate a leak in the head gasket if you mix coolant and oil it will break down the oil and cause it to burn this problem should be priority #1 check your coolant reservoir and radiator for any signs of oil/ oil leaks are never good but not always bad but if you for some reason do get pretty low then it could cause excessive heat build up and heat is a cars #1 enemy. the seat belt thing is BS because honda replaced my two rear ones for free last month. I have the same noise coming from my engine on low gears and my problem is a bad motor mount that I ordered pretty cheap. The emission code you received is more than likely due to a bad o2 sensor and is also the cheapest way to start off if you are trying to fix your self. Please take my advise as suggestions like I tell all the customers that want a diagnostic over the phone I could not be sure unless the car was in front of me and ultimately good luck ....This situation may be worth the 100$ inspection that most shops charge to do a thorough check

Lifetime warranty for the seatbelts in our cars. Don't let Honda pull you in circles and demand a manager if the service department doesn't budge.
