What tires are you running?

It's about time to replace tires on our lude, just curious what everyone has on their ride. The ones on our car are Yokohama's, I believe they're 205-45z R17. I'm going to start pricing them to see what is available. Just looking for daily driver commuting tires, nothing special.

Let's hear what you have.

Re: What tires are you running?

I ASSume you have aftermarket wheels on it? I would just slap on some Falken Ziex (sp?) they're a pretty good tire performance wise, and usually, if made in your size, hard to beat on the prices.

Yep, aftermarket wheels. I'll look into the Falkens, don't know much about them. So far I've priced Yokohama's, Kuhmo's and Sumitomo.....some of the bigger names came up but I can't justify paying $175/tire for a Bridgestone when I can get one of these other tires for $80-$90 less.

Thanks for the tip!

Jeeezus, those are really cheap. Those tires suck though, so i suppose it's up to you. I'd pay a little more for a quality tire, you know, since it's the only effing thing that connects your car to the ground.

Re: What tires are you running?

I think Falken's are cool. I'm running the 912's right now, they are really good and they do grip really nicely they just suck because they only last 30,000 miles. I would was told Nitto's were better tho.

Re: What tires are you running?

Tire dependability, life and performance are all based on what you use your car for. Mine is a DD, so all season tires are a must. I am currently running khumo Ecsta AST (high performance all season) 205/50/16. I am very happy with these, It just rained and they gripped and handled great. Fairly inexpensive tire i think a little less than 100 per. They also make the ASX which is an ultra high performance all season, but the life is a little shorter.

So then explain the differences in which tire you prefer vs. those listed and suggested and how they are safer/better, providing data if possible. We're all here to learn....well many of us are, anyway.

I wish i had the time. Use your google search bar. A little research on your own can actually make you a little smarter instead of everyone else doing it for you.

It's straight fact however, if the tire is at a cheap price (sales are different), it's cheap quality. It's your car, your life, put some garbage ass tires on it, i couldn't care less to be honest. You're in a different state, driving on different roads.

cheap tires are like chinese dry wall. you could get it and be happy with your purchase for a while but then one day the stuff starts to show why it was so cheap and then you would have to replace it quicker rather then if you bought regular drywall or tires

lol

With an attitude like that, you will no sooner be

There is nothing wrong with Yokohama tires. I run their S-Drives and they are perfect for warm weather. Sticky when need to be, although a soft compound so if you are lowered a good bit - it will show with the tire wear.

By all means, not a winter tire.... But I enjoy them for the few times a year I drive my car. 2 years and 15,000 miles later and i'm still happy with my purchase.

lol

This is true, you get what you pay for. Knowing what your getting into also helps since clearly the cheapest method is not always the "ideal" choice.

Everyone has a different purpose for their car, purchased parts are based off of current funds and the future of said car.

Funny, I dont think I said what tire I was going with, just what I had looked at thus far and weighing justification of much higher cost vs. actual benefit. You play a great Internet tough guy though.

I appreciate everyone else's info on what you have on your cars.

Re: What tires are you running?

BFGoodrich Traction T/A - Decent tire for it's day, but I don't think they're around anymore
Falken Ziex 512 - not bad but wear really quick
Kumho Ecsta ASX - very good all season
Nitto Neogen - stickier than the ASX, and actually had decent snow traction
Continental ExtremeContact DWS - great tire in the rain, lackluster steering response
General GMAX - liking them so far, but I haven't put enough miles on them to comment
Kumho Ecsta 4X - just put them on the lady's 5th gen, but they're replacing the ASX and they're supposed to be an improvement on an already good tire

Next on the list are Yokohama S.Drives for the 3rd gen after tax time

Newb, i'm always right. I don't need any facts to back up my ****. My fingers put the info you need in this thread, its your ignorance and pure lack of common sense that's hold you back from making a thought out purchase. However, again, i couldn't care less what you do. You're in a different state, driving on different roads. If you put plastic tires on your car, not a f*ck would be given by this guy. As long as you're happy with your purchase.

BTW, pretty much everyone that posted, has not only agreed with me, but posted tires that cost MORE than what I posted. You know why? Because people actually give a **** about the only part of their car that touches the road. Pretty hard to believe isn't it?

Re: What tires are you running?

I have Continental DWS on stock wheels and while an overall good tire, I feel the car is a little 'floaty' in the corners. But from what I've read, these are probably one of the better all-season tires in the market.

Re: What tires are you running?

I've got Bridgestone Potenza RE760 tires on my 'lude.
Pros
-Great traction on dry pavement
-Fairly quiet
-They wear nicely

Cons
-Heavy
-Stiff ride
-Once you get to about 60% tread depth, they become more prone to hydroplaning.

Re: What tires are you running?

Ive ran a few different sets of tires on the lude before it was killed.

The first set was Yokohama s. drives. These were a pretty good tire with some decent grip and steering response. My only complaints were they wore pretty fast and were kind of noisy.

The second set was some Khumo Ecstas. these were a great tire for the price with good grip and response. But again, the wear was quite fast if the lude is your dd and you are short on cash.

My last set was some General Altimax HP's these were the cheapest set of tires I have bought. They have excellent grip and definitely have surpassed the others in longevity. However they do feel slightly spongy compared to the Khumos. But I can't complain since they were less than $350 for the whole set.

I am also using some General Exclaim UHP's on the 1j sc300 I now own. These are a good set of tires as well besides the speedy tread wear.

Re: What tires are you running?

I got a good deal on potenza pole positions for the lude.. I like them quite a bit... as much as the yokohama avids that I had been using for the last few replacements. I live in the hills with twists and turns, so I wear them out pretty quick, but I am not sure it's the fault of the tire... says more about the driver

I was going to point you in the direction of the review thread, but that's been done. Be sure to check tirerack and discounttiredirect... discount tire usually has the cheapest stuff (due to free shipping) and often have sales/rebates (that's how I got the potenzas).

I have reviewed several other tires in that thread also.. I think... I know we had falkens on one of my wife's cars... and some kumho touring tires that I don't recommend... got them locally really cheap when I bought the lude with bald dryrotted tires.

good luck buddy.

Re: What tires are you running?

Looks like lots of folks here have or are running the Yokohama's or Kumho's. I'm reading up on the Nitto's, looks like they have gotten good reviews on several different sites.

Discounttire.com has mostly good reviews for the Hankook Ventus also, will look at those next.
