Transmission Help Need

So recently in my 5 speed my reverse gear went out and i can no longer back up. It feels as though it is hitting a break wall when i try to put it in reverse. iI purchased another transmission from a friend and rand into a problem that my half shaft is larger than the one of the transmission I purchased. What would be the best route to take inorder for my prelude to back-up again.

After fixing the sentence structure, correctly using words like "brick" and "ran", I would add a little more info to what you're asking. What style lude do you have? Is it an SH? That could be your problem. Where did you get the trans, or in this case, your friend? Was it the same Gen prelude? There's just not enough info to help you whatsoever right now.

Re: Transmission Help Need

Well if it's not off an SH specific car, it won't work unless you delete the ATTS.

Re: Transmission Help Need

How hard is it to swap out a transmission out of an SH? Does the ATTS have to be handled in a certain way? Any special tools required for the ATTS?

Re: Transmission Help Need

Heavier, but a trans drop is a trans drop. The ATTS makes things a little more difficult, but nothing I would say is "harder".

Re: Transmission Help Need

if you know anything about tranny's, since you have it off already, you might just want to take the casing off and see if you can't just replace the reverse idler gear if thats the one giving you problems. or maybe its the reverse gear on the main shaft or the cluster shaft.. i dunno... maybe one of the shift forks has fallen off of the synchronizer sleeve or something if you can't even shift it at all into reverse. it might be worth just checking it out though.

that link might help you. also, never shift into reverse while the car is moving. even if its just a tiny bit. there is no synchro in reverse to match things up to get a smooth shift like in all the other gears.

Re: Transmission Help Need

atts is the "active torque transfer system". the atts is able to distribute torque across the front drive wheels in order to reduce understeer in cornering, and provide more neutral handling for a front-wheel driven car. so its pretty much unnecessary extra electronics in the transmission... now, mind you, i have a base model so i haven't driven with the atts so i'm not sure how much better it makes the driveability. but yeah.
