These related?

When going over like 80, the car shakes a little bit. Pretty positive I need a wheel alignment. No big deal. But when I push the brakes at any speed, not slam on the brakes, the steering wheel shakes back and worth a little bit. My steering wheel also squeaks a little when I turn it more than 360 degrees. Are these problems all related?

I thought the shaking would be wheel alignment, steering wheel would be like power steering fluid or something, but why do my brakes squeak? I got all new pads and rotors 2 months ago when I bought the car. :/

Re: These related?

Applying the brakes and feeling a shaking or vibration usually means rotors.
But since you just got new rotors - did you break them in properly so they wouldn't warp?

If the car shakes when you go over 80...don't go over 80 until you find the issue. Get an alignment first and if that doesn't fix it - You could have a bad tie rod or wheel bearing. Hell maybe even a bad axle. Get it checked out, don't push the car.

I think you may have a bearing that's going out. Easy test... jack up the car and try to wiggle the wheel from top and bottom. If there's any play then its the bearing. Also check the torque on your spindle nuts if they loosen up it will vibrate at high speed.

Re: These related?

Yeah I repainted my rims a couple days ago and the nuts were on too tight, i adjusted them. Still have the problem. By the way, I didnt say I go over 80 all the time. I said it happens over 80, Im the guy that doesnt rev his car past 4k rpms.

As for the tapping, sorta, but it isnt valves, my mechanic adjusted about 2 weeks ago. A friend of mine said the tapping I hear is normal h22 tap. I will check the bearing in the morning. We jst got a bit of snow so I havent even been able to drive it let alone work on it lol

+1...that definitely sounds like a wheel bearing.

Squeaking brakes may just be a bit of dust or grit on the new surfaces.

The steering wheel squeakprobably is the back of the wheel rubbing against the plastic housing around the column...pretty common.
