help with Slave Cylinder please!

hey yall,
so i'm replacing my Master clutch cylinder cause it has a bit of a leak. so i'm replacing the slave cylinder as well. just wondering if yall have any advice for the job. and where exactly is the slave cylinder located? and should i use dot 3 or dot 4 brake fluid? does it really matter? also, i'm having a really hard time with my lower ball joints. the dust boots are ripped open so i want to replace the ball joint. except that it seems that you can't buy just the ball joint. first i was told i had to buy the whole lower control arm. now i'm being told that i will have to buy the whole steering knuckle just to get a stupid ass ball joint out of it. are you able to just put a new boot on lower ball joints?
thanks yall.
