Cooling Problem.. Need Help..

I have a 98' and recently when I drove the car and came to a stop for about 20 sec. I noticed my temp gauge showing that it was a little above the middle point and it is usually before the middle point, so I stopped the car and took a look to see if there were any leaks and if the reservoir still had coolant. Everything was normal. So when I brought it home I checked the cap and the rubber was bad so I assumed that was the problem. Replaced the cap and still doing the same thing. The weird thing is that it would only happen after 10 minutes of driving and when I come to a stop for a short time. It will slightly rise up above the mid point and when I drive it will go back down slowly and then come back a little later and same process again, but this time it is when I am driving. I looked at the fans to see if it was coming on and it did. I also noticed if the fan/s were spinning slower and it looks normal. Any ideas? Thermostat?, Coolant Sending Unit? Fans?

there are a few possibilities. could be air in the system. could be a bad thermostat. could just mean you need a coolant flush. how many miles do you have. i would start with that and work your way through whats the cheapest to most expensive. obviously thermostat is gonna be pretty cheep. doubt its the fans. it could even be a bad temperature sensor... i've actually had that happen. the engine wasn't over heating. it was just a bad sensor. thought it behaved different then what you are describing. so my guess is its NOT that.

I checked for air and there was no air bubbles coming out the bleeder hole.
I changed the coolant 2 years ago and the mileage is 60K.

It's not a blown head gasket. I don't race the car. Also there is no coolant mixture in the oil.

I can't believe this. Buy a civic? Really? Just because of BHG? They aren't pieces of ****. Built better, faster and nicer than any civic. Good call.

I thought I had the same prob. I had the timing belt changed and a new water pump and coolant flush. Solved the prob. I had the guys adjust my valves too, and let me tell you......VTTTTEEEECCC!!!!!

Like Drew said, try replacing your thermostat first.

considering mine has 160000 on the original motor and is still runnin strong. its all how you treat your car if you run the crap outta it and never take care of it then it will blow up. if you take care of it it will last for a long time.

Seriously, what the hell is your major malfunction dude? You come onto a Prelude forum, with a Prelude avatar, and talk **** on them? Moar crack plzkthx.

In one breath you are saying "Preludes are pieces of sh*t, sell it and buy a Civic", and then in the next breath you are saying to spend an arm and a leg to put a JDM H22 in the Prelude... You can't have it both ways...

Also, telling someone to sell their ENTIRE CAR, a car that is probably worth between 5 and 11 thousand dollars depending on the year and condition of it, over a blown head gasket is about the dumbest piece of advice I've ever heard.

And furthermore, if you went and paid to have your head gasket replaced, and then it blew again on you no more than a week later, then you either A) got ripped off and paid someone 1000+ dollars to do little to nothing, or B) had some kind of issue beyond just a bad head gasket... possibly warped/damaged cylinder head or even engine block where the two meet together with the head gasket.

sorry guys ive only had the car foe 1 month blew 2 head gaskets replaced radiator speedometer sensor knock sensor engine mounts wheel bearing now vtecs not working and this is a 2001 model. this car has kicked my ass and i still owe 6900 on it. ive recently put some of that head gasket repair stuff in it and its held up good for a week. i had the head checked and shaved at a machine shop. i cant possibly see anything being wrong with the block but ive just recenly got a motor from a junkyard its full of water but ill take both motors to machine shop and hopefully build one.
