Severe coolant leak!!!

Couple day ago i had my car idling when all of a sudden coolant start gushing out. My first though was water pump because it was coming form the back of the engine. Well i climbed under and i can barely see, but it appears that coolant is coming out of the bottom of my intake manifold. Is that possible? And if its not that what else is in that area that could be the culprit.

jdm98lude is infamous around these parts
Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

I had the same thing happen and it turned out to just be my radiator hoses. I dont know, maybe they were old. Either that or they were busted. Its weird if it looks like its coming from the IM. Might just be from all the gushing and it got on some other parts under the hoood.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

this is what's under the intake manifold. look at the black pipe off of the t stat housing, the hose that's attached to the housing, and the housing gasket.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

That's just a hose for the oil cooler. Any auto parts store should have it.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

Yeah dude, something similar to this just happened to my 5th gen 01 Prelude. Except with mine the coolant was leaking into the cylinders. So I had to resleeve all of those and replace the radiator. And there were other things I had to replace too like the timing belt. Expensive repairs. But that's what was wrong with mine. It sucked, but it runs great now

Wait, you have to resleeve the cylinders because of a coolant leak...?

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

I actually fixed a similar problem last week or so. There was a hose that was only visible if I took off the oil filter. My coolant leak was apparently coming from there. I found it an auto parts store for about 10 bucks.

Yes sir that's the one, you cant see it at all with the filter in the way. The place is so narrow i cant even put plier in there to relieve the clamps. OMG this is going.

P.S. That resleeving foolishness............They saw you coming a mile away.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

Were you looking at the screen with them? If so, you shoulda seen the screen that had the oil cooler on it.

And you sure they looked for an H22? Cuz some F22's didn't come with oil coolers.

What size is the nut on the oil filter plate(or whatever it is called) the clearing in back of the engine is ridiculously narrow. that things going to have to come off.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

Did it only leak when at idle? I'm having the same problem right now but i couldn't find where it came from when i crawled under the car. It seems to be the same area you had your leak. Im gonna pull the oil filter off tomorrow and hopefully that's it.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

I replaced that short hose on a 3rd gen once. the one on the drivers side. Stupid me forgot to replace the o-ring behind the oil filter housing after putting all the cv axles back together. IT'S a lot easier to remove everything in the way like cv axles.

There's like 2 coolant hoses on the right side of the oil filter under the intake manifold, they are inline and connect to the firewall. I have a Type-SH.

Re: Severe coolant leak!!!

look for mayonaise looking residue in the oil filler head cap.as a symptomatic head gasket issue. there is no need to vent the oil filter.
