Throttle Wire Tension/Slack?

Happy New Year PZ,

Quick quesiton: How much slack/tension should be on the throttle wire?

I was adding my usual 1/4 quart of oil today and noticed I had a good deal of slack in my throttle wire, about 1/4-1/2 inch of slack. I tightened it some, just enough so it did not feel 'tight' but no longer had any slack. I also checked under the dash, where the throttle pedal mounts onto the wire. The rubber stoppers all appear in tact and even look new.

Is there a specific amount of slack/tension that should be on the throttle wire?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Throttle Wire Tension/Slack?

this may sound confusing so lets see how i do

loosen the locknuts at the throttle cable mount till u can the pull cable taught without moving the butterfly

the furthest nut from the butterfly should be 3mm from the mount wen its pulled taught

once u have that done, tighten the closer nut till it seats the further that was just 3mm away thats what the honda dealership does

When my cable was loose, I only tightened it to a point where it was snug, but wasn't enough to open the butterfly valve. But since I have low rpm even after cleaning my IACV and FITV, I might tighten it even more to keep the valve open just a bit.

yeah, i tried that. spent about 20 minutes trying to perfect it till i quit. it was to much of a pain in the ass before i noticed there's actually an idle adjuster screw underneath the throttle.

I tried the idle adjuster screw but no luck. :( Actually... in order to increase the rpm, would I go clock-wise or counter-clockwise?

Re: Throttle Wire Tension/Slack?

assuming clockwise. if it's right hand threaded. but i have a suspicion that it might be left hand threaded. then it would be counter clockwise.
