Idle surging after timing belt

I just finished changing all the belts, seals, and water pump.

After everything was bolted back up I started the car. After the initial cold start engine started surging from 1K-3k rpm

I figured it was air in the cooling system or timing off. But I triple checked all the timing marks after rotating the crank.

I had the bleed valve open. Radiator cap open. Poured coolant in the reservoir as well as in the radiator. Held revs constant to 3K rpm but the fans don't turn on. Smoke started coming out of the radiator and bleed valve. Little bubbles of coolant squirted out of the valve but no stream. At this point valve cover got really hot and I shut her down.

Never had a problem with the thermostat not opening before the install so I need your help guys.

Re: Idle surging after timing belt

Thats odd.

So it does this when it's cold and hot? If so, I would assume somethings with a vacuum leak? But if it's only when it's cold then your FITV may need to be adjusted. Use a can of brake cleaner and spray around your IM and vacuum hoses. Maybe you must've bumpa hose off while fiddling with the VC? Weird if you ask me.
