1998 car problems.

My prelude has been giving me some problems lately.

Bad power steering leak under the car that a honda certified mechanic friend of mine doesn'te ven want to bother fixing at his house. I dont know what the dealerships will charge.

The driver side window just came off the tracks

The oil pan is leaking from under the car, just fixed the top valve cover gasket.

It wil probably be due for a new timing belt. Previous owner said it was done at 75,000 miles in 2007. now it has 122,000 miles.

Also, theo ther day it just flat out turned off on me while driving and the day before that the ABS lights came on for about 10 seconds and hte car was beeping a warning chime.

What can i get for this car if I sell it? I am thinking 2500/Best Offer. Are any of you interestred in buying it?

What is causing that ABS problem? I'm a bit let down with the reliability of this car.

I would consider getting it fixed if the price wasn't that bad. I will probably just sell it though. I don't come on this website too much but my # is 631 946 1112 and I'm located in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY. Call or text anytime if you are interested in the car.

Re: 1998 car problems.

abs light - you could be low on fluid, or the sensor on the brake fluid cap is going bad/cap is not tight

oil pain - it is simply sealed with hondabond, remove/clean the area and reapply a new seal (hondabond is a high end liquid seal)

turned off - possibly bad ignition switch. but there's alot of other possibilities that can cause this.

driver side window - i recall reading that there is a clip that sometimes breaks in there. you will need to take the panel off and try to get the window back on the track first and see what exactly went wrong

power steering leak - you could be leaking where the fittings go into the rack, if so it just needs to be tightened or removed/sealed and reinstalled. if that's not the case than you may need a new steering rack. Just take it to a dealership and ask them what it would cost to find the issue and fix it if it is indeed the rack etc - you'll never know unless you ask.

You've got time on the timing belt still. another 20k maybe, as long as the tensioner etc was replaced during the last timing belt job was done. No harm in inspecting it though - preventive maintenance.

not bad on the mileage, you could ask 4-6k depending on what you get fixed. I paid 8,500 for mine with 114k on it and no issues/leaks etc.

Re: 1998 car problems.

i paid 4,000 for the car in June 2009 with with 96,500 miles. Unfortunately, I am not mechanically inclined at all to do the work on it myself. I'll look into what it would cost. Is there anyone on here in the NY area who can do the work on it out of their home?

Re: 1998 car problems.

wow, your best bet is to take it to well trusted or highly reccomended auto shop that won't rape your wallet dry.

With that many issues i know many shops will get creative and try to milk you bud.
