Water in trunk and speedo question

Hey guys since the first day I've got my car I've always wondered what was that little square on the speedo written Maintenance required next to it, because before it was green and now it's orange o.O. Also I'd like to know if you guys already had water problem in the trunk, because I'd like to have an idea where it could come from and how I could fix this. Thanks!

Re: Water in trunk and speedo question

1. Stick your key or some thin object through the rectangular hole to turn the maintenance thing green again

2. Push the lil black plugs out near your spare tire and you wont have water in the trunk anymore. Common issue for 5th gens

Re: Water in trunk and speedo question

Average maintenance as in change oil. It turns red every 7,000 miles i believe.

As for the trunk;

sunroof drain tubes may be blocked and leaking water into the trunk

tail light seals

weather stripping between the trunk lid and trunk

as prelude 1897 said - you can remove the drain plugs in the bottom of the trunk and the water will just drain out. But the above locations/seals i listed are the common reasons it leaks.

Re: Water in trunk and speedo question

In addition to the other things mentioned about the water in the trunk, try using a hose to spray the area around the fuel filler area. I took some RTV black sealant and started sealing up gaps and areas where water was seeping into the trunk (after changing my tail light gaskets). I got 95% of the leak fixed, but there's still a little bit of water leaking into the trunk. Once the weather gets warmer, I'll continue to the do the spray and inspect.
