Fresh Start..5th gen Prelude

Just got my lude back after a 6 month period of driving a big ass chevy pick u -__-..not so great. I think ive learned my lesson with buying cars from craigslist but im gna stick with the prelude nevertheless because i fell in love with it..so im just asking humbly to the experts and anybody tht knows anything about these cars..what are the real do's and dont's about the prelude. More speciffically I wanna know my limits of a modding before having to do supportive work to the block..if anyone has sum factual insight on this,,please enlighten me,, thank you

Re: Fresh Start..5th gen Prelude

Depending on the health of the engine, many folks say that 300whp is the absolute limit of our engine with stock internals. Having a good tune is mandatory for reliability with any boost whatsoever. Beyond the 300whp mark you're looking at beefier internals. This means sleeves, pistons, and rods (with bearings and head studs being good ideas but not necessarily mandatory). Our stock valve train, including the cams are good up to 600hp, and our crank is pretty much indestructible, or so it seems.

If you're interested in natural aspiration, I've never seen any N/Aers above the 300whp mark, so you're probably fine to just mod away.

There's a wealth of pre-existing information out there, so don't be afraid of the search button and don't be afraid to browse the other forums (preludepower and preludeonline).

Welcome to the event-horizon of the Prelude obsession.

+1 on this. Change your oil, oil filter, air filter. If it's an automatic, drain the tranny and refill with OEM Honda ATF (or a good synthetic, I'm doing fine with Royal Purple). If you're near the 100,000 mile mark, it's time for a new water pump and a new timing belt.

Check your fluids:
Brake
Power Steering
Coolant
Transmission
Blinker

Check the tire pressure. Check your belts. Consider replacing your fuel filter.

Before you do much in the way of modification, do a Compression Test and Leakdown test.
