Need Advice - Engine Bay Washing

Fellow Luders,

I plan to wash my engine bay this weekend. Apart from covering the alternator and the distributor cap , what other precautions should I take ? I plan to spay massive dose on water into the engine bay.

Any advice will be welcome.

Re: Need Advice - Engine Bay Washing

Make sure you dont get water down the spark plug tubes! Use air to blow out the tubes after you wash it.

I would pull the battery out cover the end of the terminal cables and go to town!!! As long as you dont have to drive any where for a while....I did it this past weekend and let it sit for 12 or so hours and everything was dry and squeeky clean.

Re: Need Advice - Engine Bay Washing

Do it by hand and take your time... I would never use a hose in my bay

Re: Need Advice - Engine Bay Washing

As previously stated, you should use some engine degreaser. I used it before and it worked great.

Re: Need Advice - Engine Bay Washing

If you want to get serious with it.. Get some degreaser and a tooth brush

Cover the electric stuff with plastic bags

Make sure your engine is cold for a while before and after you clean the engine

i agree with 00CDMLUDER. you don't need to take anything out. just cover major electrical components with plastic bags or plastic whatever.
