Car shakes or shudders on clutch engagement

the lude shakes or shudders very hard before clutch engages, all motor mounts are good... this a new clutch with approx 100 miles, it was fine until a few days ago, once the clutch engages and gear shifts everything's its good, the shake only happens on low rpm engagement, when i rev up to about 4k to 5k to take off it the car doesn't shake... its a stage 4 xtd clutch kit (un-sprung disc) and used fidanza flywheel with new friction surface, if your going to come bash on the product don't waist your time on this thread, thanks in advance...

Re: Car shakes or shudders on clutch engagement

Just sounds like a new clutch breaking in. I just put in an ACT Xtreme and streetlite flywheel and experienced the same shudder at low rpms. During the 500-mile break-in the shudder gradually improved. Keep in mind the clutch material has a lot more grip than before so it takes awhile to smooth out the surface. I also had a front wheel bearing going out and that may have enhanced the shaking feel. Jack your car up and try to wiggle the tire by pulling the top and bottom of the tire. If it wiggles... time for a new bearing. They're usually pretty worn by 150K.

Mine feels the same, but Im pretty positive my clutch is going to give out on me at any time. How long will it take for a new clutch to settle in once replaced?

Re: Car shakes or shudders on clutch engagement

what i dont understand is why is it shaking now, the first 2 days it was fine and now is doing all this shaking... it doesn't chatter either which i think that's a good thing... could a bolt gotten loose maybe? could the clutch disk be warped?

Around 500 miles, after a week I noticed it felt much better

It can quite a few different things. You have to remember that un-sprung clutches usually chatter quite a bit more compared to sprung. But, if it's that bad, it could be a warped clutch, or even damaged pressure plate. I would drive it easily for the next few days, and if it continues past the time for a break-in, i'd drop the tranny and see.

my slave cylinder leaked on my new clutch and ruined it and warped the plate on my lightweight flywheel. Did you change your slave when you did the clutch? did you have the flywheel resurfaced, and are you sure the fluid is properly bled?

thanks for the input bro, yes i replaced the friction surface on the flywheel and bleed it correctly, funny u mention the slave cylinder cause i notice now that i have i hard time getting it into 1st gear so i have to clutch more than once before i get it in 1st and sometimes other gears before moving the car not while in motion, also i notice my clutch gets soft after a long drive then it'll get hard after i clutch a few times... will check the slave cylinder tonight..

this was best investment i made in longtime, easy install and easy to bleed, it replaces the entire stock clutch line, rywire just started making them for our ludes in september 2011 and is under 70 bucks...

I got about 3k miles out of my first clutch replacement and friction surface on my flywheel, I had the same symptoms as you're describing. I used an aftermarket slave cylinder when I did the replacement and it leaked, ruining the above mentioned parts. go oem, cheap insurance when you change a clutch.

I've used ACT in all my builds... Civics mostly but no problems at all. There's usually something else going on if your clutch goes out after 3K; maybe a rear main leak, damaged surfaces, bad install. Sorry you had a bad experience with yours but I've never had an issue like that.

Re: Car shakes or shudders on clutch engagement

i changed the slave cylinder now its easier to get into gear...is it normal for the clutch to feel soft after driving for a while? for example, when i down shift to a gear from 5th the clutch feels soft and then feels hard when i clutch again..
