Rebuild + Upgrade Time

Alright guys be gentle please. I'm considering rebuilding my motor. I have a blown head gasket. 100% Sure. My friends keep telling me to sell/part it out and buy a new car, but I'm stubborn, unwilling and in love with my Lude. I considered trying to find a buy a new motor(Used of course), but mine only had 117k miles on it and yeah. I have some money lying around and a steady job, plus tax return season is around the corner so I'm thinking of just going all they way. I've been pricing some things and estimating others so can you all let me know what I'm missing/what you think/what you would do.

Oil Change(Synthethic) 120
Coolant Change 100
Head Gasket 120
Valve Cover Gasket + Others 100
Brian Crower Pistons 600
Hondata S300 600
Sleeving Motor 900
Brian Crower Stage 3 Cams 500
Brian Crower Valvetrain 500
Skunk 2 Adjustable Cam Gears 200
Timing Belt 50
NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs 50
Fuel Filter 30
Thermostat 50
Silicon Vacuum Lines 50
Water Pump 50
AEM V2 Intake + Filter 300
Motor Mounts 300
Raditor 200
O2 Sensors 100
Skunk2 Intake Manifold 300
Throttle Body 300
Stage 2 Clutch 300
Injectors 725cc 400
Thermal Manifold Gasket 50

As far as my plans go I'm looking to stay N/A for now and possibly boost in the future, nothing ridiculous just a fun DD.

Also, if any of the prices seem ludicrous let me know seeing as how I'm just estimating some while doing as much research as possible <3.

Also I'd be doing most of the work myself and with some friends. Well at least everything that's possible on my own. Seeing as how I know labor would almost double the cost.

You think 450cc's would be enough? I plan on boosting in the future, but yeah thanks I forgot to mention new rods.

Doing it myself, but I'm being extremely generous in some areas so I don't end up short on cash.

Re: Rebuild + Upgrade Time

If you're rebuilding the motor - you'll want to replace the headgasket, rear main seal, vc seal, valve seals, dizzy seal, vtec solenoid seals, cam seals, and all the seals around the water pump/oil pump.

That alone is around $500

Consider a new water pump if you're doing a timing belt and tensioner.

BC stage 3 seems like a bit too much if you intend to go boost in the future.

As far as pistons - you need to decide now if you're going to go boost or not. If you are, you'll want lower compression pistons - if you're staying N/A than you'll want higher.

Consider getting new valve guides as well.

Get some head work done - a good valve job will help and that can run $300+

s300? you'll need an obd1 ecu if i'm not mistaken.

Don't forget buying aftermarket motor mounts usually means left/right/rear - a front would either be separate (innovative i think has them) or you would need a traction bar

if you're building the motor - get a nice header. If you plan to boost - don't worry about it.

You'll need an intake manifold gasket - i suggest Rosko

Building a motor like this can cost an easy 6k+ .....and after the motor is done you will have to worry about suspension components (bushings etc) that are worn. First thing's first though- you need to decide now if you're going boost or not. Otherwise you're better off going with a close to stock piston and a mild cam like a stage2 at the most. That way you have room to boost in the future if you decide to without needing to change parts.

Do you even have a power goal? Or are you just wanting to build it since you need a rebuild anyway? Stock pistons/rods would be fine on a mild N/A setup - but if your block is messed up then sleeving would be the way to go.
