Intake Manifold Gasket

I've got a seriously bad vacuum leak that's causing my car to idle. Gonna be changing the Intake Manifold Gasket before it gets too cold out. Any recommendations on where I should get one or am I ok going to trust ol' AutoZone?

Go ahead and get one from your dealership. Was like 20-25 dollars.

But i really doubt your IM gasket is the cause of your leak - check your vacuum lines first

Re: Intake Manifold Gasket

Rosko, Hondata, or Golden Eagle like I have. They're all slightly more than OEM but they're thermal and drop intake temps going into the engine slightly so it wouldn't be a bad investment anyway.
All three have good names for quality products so pick one. I personally have at least one thing on my car from all of them.

Not 100% sure its my IM Gasket, but I'm 100% it is a Vacuum Leak.(Rough and Bouncing Idle, Coolant Leak, and now dying at idle + misfires =\) But even beyond that I'm just about at 120,000 miles and I think Im due for a new one.

Re: Intake Manifold Gasket

O.O thanks guys. Now let me ask you this, How bad of an idea would it be to replace all my vacuum lines. I'm pretty sure it'd be a pain in the ass, but would it be worth it at 120k miles?

Re: Intake Manifold Gasket

not a bad idea at all. I recently did this on another vehicle I own that has approximately the same mileage.

check the condition of the lines though, you might not need to replace them all.

Re: Intake Manifold Gasket

I will never understand why everyone will jump to suggest purchase of an item when said item may not fix the issue at hand....

It's rare for the IM gaskets to go bad. The one on my F22 has over 185k on it and has not been touched.

Misfires? Check your CEL, you are throwing a CEL right? Check your sparkplugs and wires, maybe even injectors... that's not a vacuum related issue.

Bouncing idle? have you cleaned your ICAV yet? Have you had your EGR ports/valve cleaned yet? The EGR related items can cause misfires as well. The ICAV can give you a rough idle. Check the vacuum lines as well (as someone already mentioned)

Coolant leak? trace it out and fix it - that one is pretty straightforward. Your coolant lines should be replaced around now anyway for some preventive maintenance.

Go ahead and check your vacuum lines first - of all the things listed, those are the easiest to inspect/replace. Then move down the list with the other issues you have. EGR ports and valve would be the next thing to work on followed by fixing that coolant leak.

Never jump to thinking it's "this specific part". The IM gasket is one BITCH to replace - why go through the trouble when there are so many more things to test first.

As I just mentioned - coolant lines should be done, vacuum lines can't hurt - they've been exposed to alot of heat and weathering so go for it.
