question about sh engine compatability

im about to buy a 98 sh without an engine and plan to work on it soon. this is a pure resale project as i dont even like the colour. far as i know the sh and type s have the same motor and that a base h22a4 will fit but with a bunch of mods. the question is, is the h22a in a type s the only jdm h22a. having said that is a jdm ecu required to install the h22a in an sh. surely a thread for this is floating around somewhere. ill gladly accept advice on this. thanks all

Re: question about sh engine compatability

Depends what is missing. If it has an ATTS gear box, unit, ECU, etc. then the only engines that will fit are a SH H22A4 or a Type S H22A. The Type S isn't the same motor, but it is a P5P block. Has 11:1 pistons, slightly more aggressive cams, etc.

H22A's from the Euro-R, SiR, etc. you have the same issue as with the base H22A4.

If it is missing more, then you could run a standard block, with standard transmission, etc.

Re: question about sh engine compatability

SH engines are much MUCH harder to build because of that atts, you cannot change IM and ecu unless you wanna drive with atts being just dead weight

with base model you can do things much more freely

Re: question about sh engine compatability

As far as I know you can run a Euro-R IM and have ATTS enabled. Since the OP is doing the car up for resale, I seriously doubt they are going to be building the motor anyway.
