GReddy E-Manage Ultimate vs. Others

I have a supercharger that I plan to run at 9psi on stock internals with my SportShift (5th gen, of course). I hope to street-tune the car myself. Is GReddy's E-Manage Ultimate my best bet for an all-in-one option? I plan to add a boost sensor and a wide-band O2 sensor (that's the same thing as an Air/Fuel or A/F sensor, right?). To my understanding, I can wire those directly into the EMU, right? Are there other sensors I might need to add? What is a good brand of sensors that will work well with the EMU?

I've heard some people have had trouble with EMU, but it seems that all those troubles can be overcome with enough education. Are there legitimate issues I should be aware of?

Here's the best write up of the EMU's capabilities that I've been able to find. Does anyone know of other good write-ups? It can change VTEC engagement, too, right?

If you're planning on responding with the following, please don't: rumors, myths, uneducated opinions, "get rid of your sissy-stick", "go turbo instead". I'm looking for good advice on piggy-back tuning solutions. And, yes, I searched. My results are what encouraged the above.

Re: GReddy E-Manage Ultimate vs. Others

If you need to stay OBD2 - Emanage ultimate is the way to go.

Otherwise, you can get more out of going OBD1 and getting a different management system. Check the tuning and forced induction sections of this forum.

I know of a supercharged auto....as well as a turbocharged auto.... Both have built transmissions mind you. I wouldn't advise of tuning 9 until you have a 5spd swap or built auto trans- just my advice.

Yeah, the transmission will be a consumable once the boost is going. I've been planning on doing a 5spd swap, but a built auto does sound a little more my style. I just feel like manuals are too much of a pain in the ass for a DD. Do you have links to the build threads for those autos? Or do they exist? (The threads, I mean.)

yep, built 5g transmissions dont really exsist and the money it would take to build one you could buy another prelude. my 2c buy a 5speed then boost that. overall cheaper and more reliable than trying to boost that auto. all you do when boostin an auto 5g is turn it into a ticking timebomb

Re: GReddy E-Manage Ultimate vs. Others

Thanks again for telling me something I probably know more about than you and specifically asked you not to tell me. Any input on the GReddy E-manage Ultimate or other piggy-back ecu solutions?

The guy with the auto Turbo doesn't have a build thread.

If you want to have an auto transmission built - I know both guys had theirs done here:
Level 10 Performance Transmission Systems Bulletproof Transmissions,Supercharger The company is located in NJ

Here's some information:
boosted automatics from those who have em' - Honda Prelude Forum : Honda Prelude Forums

The Gimp - on pp has a supercharged auto if i'm not mistaken
turboprelude97 -on pp has a turbocharged auto

Neither are active but you can more than likely find all the information you're looking for via going through their posts.

Built 5g transmissions do exist. - see above

If someone's willing to dump money into a car - i'm sure anyone is willing enough to pay for what they want. For what they are, I don't find the price on a built auto THAT bad.

Forced Induction - Honda Prelude Forum - forced induction

Sorry, thought this site had a specific section for "tuning" but you may find what you're looking for in the above forced induction section. (i'm on too many forums lol)

You can also try here: (I know you're already on pp but posting anyway just so it's available)

Re: GReddy E-Manage Ultimate vs. Others

Thanks for the info, wing! I had totally discounted the idea of an auto before now, but it actually seems pretty doable if my stock ECU can be taught to control it with the GReddy EMU, which it should. Cool.
