Knocking sound

I've got a knocking sound that seems to be coming from underneath the car. It only happens when I'm stationary and i turn left or right. Like to pull out of a parking space or parallel parking. It's no the CV joints. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Re: Knocking sound

Sorry, it's definitely coming from the steering system. I can feel it in the steering wheel

Re: Knocking sound

Could be slop where the rack ends connect to the tie rods.

Re: Knocking sound

is there is midget in your trunk trying to get out?

these threads have been popping up a lot lately.
jack the car up, try moving the suspension around, check ball joints for excess movement, check for worn bushings. There tends to be a loud clunking noise that comes from sway bars when the bushings are worn.

how old are your shocks?

Re: Knocking sound

Check your upper ball joints. That symptom sounds familiar. The will when cause a funny vibration when turning and accelerating at the same time.

Re: Knocking sound

Yeah it was the NS tie rod. That's all sorted now but when I picked my car up there wasn't something badly wreong with it.

When i turned the key once the starter motor was trying to start the engine (!). Then when I started the car I could hear the starter motor doing something so I had a look under the bonnet and it was red hot. I have a dodgy ignition anyway and sometimes it'll slip from the II position to the I position while I'm driving. What could they have done?
