New Prelude, new problems.

So today, I just bought a 98 Prelude for $3100 from a dealership. It has 170000 miles and a faluty transmission that sticks on 1st a little, but It drives well. The check transmission light went on and I wondering if there is after market tranny for a Base H22A4 with a sequential sports shift?

Or If I could rebuild the tranny without droping a new one in?

Re: New Prelude, new problems.

its known to be an issue with the 5th generation prelude automatic transmission....the auto-tragic trans strikes again. I suppose it could be rebuilt, i don't follow many of these auto trans sagas on the internet.....

Re: New Prelude, new problems.

What everyone usually does is the 5speed swap, like I did when I was having the same issues, and make it a more reliable manual transmission. Its not that bad of a job, and all the parts bolt right up. I did mine this past spring in my driveway.

Re: New Prelude, new problems.

It can cost anywhere from $2,000-$3000 to do the swap. You could possibly get that dealership for lemon law or have them replace the transmission....if you were not notified of the issue prior to purchase.
