Re: help please

If you have this MSD distributor (part No.8488) you should read it all, may be the problem is the distributor "This all new Pro-Billet Distributor is designed for the popular Honda/Acura ’96-’01 JDM/USDM 1.6/1.8L B-Series DOHC VTEC engine platform."
Check this link:Pro-Billet Honda Distributor, 92-95 - 8488

Specially about this one you are require two more parts in order to work properly and you should find it in the instructions part, If is not the same look more into it my be requires more parts or simply not working properly

Tighten your battery posts. Bolt down your battery.

Re: help please

Basically you re-constructed it, right? rotor and cap were only replaced but not the whole distributor, probably the rotor is not properly installed

Start the engine to normal temperature and check the distributor for any noise, it will be notice at low RPM but at high RPM will be normal until later it will start having problems at high RPM

may be just the screws on the cap

Before I replace the rotor on my car was doing the same thing, the old one was making some noise that was coming from the distributor, I opened and notice that the rotor was loose and was the reason it was having the same problem, also it was leaking some motor oil in the bottom of the distributor because it was not sealing well
