regular fuel oops

My uncle filled up my empty tank with regular fuel today. On the drive home from where we were there wasn't any knocking sound like I have read there would be. I was wondering if adding octane booster would compensate for the octane not present in the tank. The previous owner of the car used premium so this is the first time this has happened. If adding octane booster is something I should do, what kind should I use? I know all octane boosters are not created equal, so was wondering which is best.

Thanks.

Re: regular fuel oops

No need for any octane boosters, you should be fine. just filler up with premium next fill up.

Re: regular fuel oops

Don't use that octane booster crap. Just use premium next time like the guy above me said. Aren't there stickers that premium only? lol

Re: regular fuel oops

Yeah I'd just wait for the needle to drop a bit, put some premium or whatever is highest around you in there, maybe do that once more when the needle drops more, and then next time fill it with 91.

From my experience in many types of motor racing most octane boosters are crap. Like half the supplements in a body building store. I knew guys that cheaped out in MX by not buying VP Racing Fuel and just bought "clean" toluene (which can be used as paint thinner, not sure what made certain types different) and added that to the fuel. I mean hey that method works for Formula 1 teams haha.

Re: regular fuel oops

yeah. it's no big deal my mom drove my lude (before i owned it) for 3 years on regular. never had an issue. the computer compensates. the only time you really get detonation is if it's really hot. like if you're starting to get in the high 90s or even 100's. up north that never happens that regularly. i borrowed my car to a friend for a week while i was out of town. never informed him to fill it up with premium. he filled it up with regular. that was in the summer to, in FL, where it gets into the 90s pretty regularly. never had an issue. the only real drawback i see from not using premium, your gas mileage drops a bit. maybe 5-10%. not anything drastic though.
