Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

So, my 5speed swap is pretty much done except the mechanic is having issues getting pressure in the clutch line. Bare with me on this, he's got a thick accent and kind of hard to understand over the phone..

Said he put a new master and slave cylinder on there; and said he can engage the clutch with a pry bar no problem. But he can't figure out why there's still no pressure.

He also said that there's some type of a diaphragm that he thinks is the issue. I'm assuming he's talking about the dampener? He wants to bypass it but something about the end connectors on the clutch line not being the same size (this is where his accent kind of lost me), so he's not sure if it'll work. I told him I'd jump on here and see if anyone had an idea of what's going on.

I found an older, similar post and someone said to delete the dampener and get a steel braided line to replace the old clutch line with. If this is the case, where do I find one at? I had ordered a steel braided line from Goodrich already, but it was only a few inches long (assuming it goes from the slave to the trans?). I was hoping it'd be a longer line to run all the way from the master.

Thanks in advance guys. Sorry if this sounds a little confusing. Just trying to relay everything he told me over the phone.

Re: Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

doesn't sound like the mechanic is very resourceful. Any good mechanic should be able to source some AN fittings and braided stainless line.

let me look up a link.

http://www.anplumbing.com/

no I don't know the size of the fittings you need, the mechanic should be able to tell you that. I'm not certain that there is a production piece that runs straight from the MC so making a custom one will work great.

Re: Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

I think he was just trying to find a way to get rid of the dampener and still use the stock hard-line. He was already closed for the day by the time I posted this and started looking it up for him.

Dug up a few more posts and I think I'm getting a better picture of what he's talking about (wish I would have just drove up to the shop so I could see what he's talking about myself). Can anyone verify that the dampener is the black, bracket looking thing that's about half way through the line?

A buddy of mine recommended that I check out the sport bike shop here in town and have them make the braided line for me. I'm going to search for the dimensions and everything I need for it to be made, but if anyone knows them off the top of their head, that'd be great.

Re: Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

Hopefully should be done this week, this should be our last speed bump. Was so nice going in there today and getting to see it with everything installed. Especially to hear it start right up (even if he had to use the pry bar to engage the clutch). At least I know it's working and wired up correctly.

Re: Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

Lol, yeah man I know ya did. I thought I ordered one, but it ended up only being about 8 inches long. I'm actually sitting in a hose shop right gnow, waiting for them to make a cable for me. Hopefully there aren't anymore issues after this. Which I can't imagine there would be, everything from the master to the slave is brand new now.

Re: Issues with clutch line during 5speed swap

Well, I finally have my car back!!!

I can't believe what a difference it makes having a 5speed now. So much more power!!
I've got class all day tomorrow, but Wed. I'm planning on swapping out the gauge cluster and moving the transistor on the auto. ECU. So after that's done I'll make an official completed post and get some pictures and stuff on there.

Thanks for all the help guys!
