Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

Hi, was wondering what a 98 stock prelude dyno at?
Also I had my 98 Prelude Dynoed on Saturday and was wondering if the readings were right?
What I have for mods are
Skunk2 cams
Skunk2 intake manifold
AME intake
OBX racing sport R exhaust
Light weight flywheel
Limited slip differential (< not sure if that would effect HP or torque)
also have heavier then stock wheels but also not sure if that would effect much on the dyno?

In the picture the first run was with the stock OBD2 ecu not tuned and the other run was the final with OBD1 chipped and tuned.

Should my prelude with all the mods start out at 130HP, and after tuned with the mods does 174.5 seem right?
Thanks :)

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

I'd expect your 'pre-tuned' number to be a little higher, but not by much (140-150ish). 174.5 after mods and tuning seems correct though.

The H22 isn't horribly responsive to bolt-on's. I'm not sure off the top of my head what kind of numbers the Skunk2 cams and IM should add, but the AEM intake is going to only add about 1-3hp, and the OBX exhaust (assuming it's a simple bolt-on, cat. back style) is going to be barely noticeable too.

From what I understand in the realm of exhaust; the highest potential for gains is to run a quality header (Hytech replica, Mugen, etc. Not DC or Megan), high flow cat. or test pipe, and 3" piping all the way back. There's always a little bit of debate on whether 2.5" or 3" is better with a N/A build, but I think the majority of the 'more-experienced' members on here all agree on 3".

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

saying "skunk2 cams" means nothing to us since they make over 4 different types of cams..... exactly what cams are you using.

and yes, even if you were using stage 2 cams those numbers are low

the skunk2 intake manifold is not helping a n/a motor.

you need a good header - look into vibrant

3" exhaust will help more

130whp base dyno does not seem right at all for a stock h22a4 prelude. Are you using an H22a4? I know in other countries they use different motors so it always helps to verify what you have.

as previously said - you should be in the 140-160whp stock.

Not sure what stage the cams are :/ need to check but havn't looked at them yet. It is a H22A4 but could the numbers be low becuse of the stock ecu and it not being tuned and was runing lean. could hevayer wheels effect it?

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

16" rims (stock size) will spin slightly faster than 17+ but you wont really see much of a difference on a dyno. maybe 2 whp or so at most.

the stock run still should have been a bit higher. Hope you have good sparkplugs/wires etc and your injectors are clean and spraying enough fuel

170 for a stock motor is common.

That however is not the average for normal worn motors.

His 170whp+ is with the listed modifications. Depending on his cams it should be in the 190-210whp range

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

i sincerely dont know why you had that reading soo low........ my h22a BONE STOCK with a short ram custom, a damage ignition, a fabric fuel filter (17 years old LOL), and damage down pipe i run 150 whp....... with little upgrades like custom CAI, fuel filter OEM brand new, new ignition, custom 2.5 exhaust exhasus and fabric header with the same problem of the down pipe!!! barely stock with my p13 and without tune.......

i pull 172 whp and im looking with a header and without a tune get to the 190+ whp mark

here is a vid :P

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

Dude. Thats bad news that you dont know what kind of cams you installed in your engine. BAD BAD BAD. Unless of course you bought the car with the cams already installed. In which case shame on you for not asking. Tisk tisk. Hope you diddnt like your valvetrain too much. cause that stuff dosnt hold up very well if you go stuffing cams in there all willy nilly with no regard as to upgrading stock internals. Which is why its helpful to know. Just trying to show you why this is important. Not trying to sound like a jerk.

Re: Dyno question, 174.5hp after tune is that good?

sounds like skunk2 tuner 1 cams...they doesnt help you that much
my stock h22a5 made 160whp/196hp (only mod AEM CAI)

it also depends in which day you are there in dyno... if the day is very warm and moisty it can easily take some horses off

like

205hp / +28c humidity 65% (with filthy air filter)
224hp / +10c humidity 30%

My stock H22a8 just hit 171.3whp (95K miles). IMO you should be in the region of 190-195whp with those mods and a tune.
