chinese headers

I am getting ready to replace my Megan headers after 3 years and after looking at alot of adds have noticed that alot of the choices physically look very simular. For example the DC sports polished stainless header and the Megan unit look almost the same except for the name tags, which are in the same place on the header, but with different names. Both units are made in China as far as I know, is it possible they are made in the same factory? Also there are others that also look like these for alot less money. The description of these units are also very simular, CNC machined flange, T304 stainless steel, 5-10 HP gain, almost word for word. The DC sports are $350-$400, the Megans $150-$200, and the cheapies $50-$100. One ad I read said "not all Megan headers say Megan on them" What's up?

I know there are better headers than Megan or DC, but the increase in price is to great for my needs or available budget.

What's wrong with the DC compared to the Megan header?

Megan and DC are basically the same thing. I think as far as quality, Megan is better. I have one on my 4g. In all honesty, if you have an H22, I don't really suggest getting an aftermarket unless it's custom like SMSP, RMF, KTeller, or whatever. H23 sees more gains, since it has a more restrictive exhaust manifold but the H22 stock header is obviously OEM quality, and the DC and like kind, are basically a stock replacement that make a more costmetic difference than performance. You could put that $400 towards a decent suspension or getting the head built up nicely, and later getting the custom header and seeing even more gains.

THe H22 doesn't respond well to the "normal" quick power ups (CAI, cheap header, etc) because the factory gear is so well thought out. So with one of these engines, it comes across more than ever - you get what you pay for.

Interesting.. so if i were to dyno my car (with factory tune) with all the parts i have now VS a stock Prelude there wouldn't be that much of a difference? Something like 10-15 horsepower?

What about my car with a custom tune + the mods it has now (in sig) VS a stock Prelude? I'd assume the mods would only take greater effect after a tune since that's usually the case... unless it's different in this case?

What kind of price difference are you talking between a custom header and say a DC bolt on?

it depends on which header... The type s and sir spec s headers are both 2.25inches in diameter. The stock usdm header is 2inches. But the odds of you finding any of these two headers are slim to none.

Don't buy that. It's not "Authentic." The euro r exhaust manifold is 2 iches just like a the usdm exhaust manifold. you won't get any gains even if it's an "authentic" euro r exhaust manifold (header). A type s and sir spec s header is different from a euro r.

isn't that the case with most "euro" type products when applied to the h22?

The thing is, the euro r and the type s have the same block and head. it's the complimentary parts that are different. ie, intake manifold, intake, header and exhaust. The euro r shares the same exhaust has the usdm preludes do. The type s gets 1/4 of an inch bigger diameter exhaust piping. The euro r gets a 2 inch collector which is exactly the same as the usdm collector. So if you want euro r parts, The header is not the right thing to get. The intake manifold is where it's at. But not the header.

you guys got to be really careful of what you're buying.

If it says "JDM" and "Euro" or "EDM" in the same sentence, my philosophy is, stay away because you don't know what you're getting. Like getting "JDM Altezzas" there's nothing JDM about them.
