5 spd swap almost done, running into issues

hey guys im doin a 5spd swap with brian right now. its almost done. cars put back together and everything. just one problem. it will start if u jump it from the starter, but wont start with the key. any advice? and i read alot saying u need spacers between the clutch pedal and firewall. is that required? let me know as soon as u can guys, if u have done an auto to manual swap let me know if u ran into that. and also, the ecu has not been modded yet to tell the car its a manual yet. where u move the resistor over to the other side. can that be the issue?

Re: 5 spd swap almost done, running into issues

I did the swap all myself this summer. I never ran into any issues like this. Did you tap into the immobilizer system to run the clutch switch? That's how I did it, so it wouldn't start without the clutch pushed in. Sounds like that might be your problem, something with the immobilizer system. Also did you short the wires on the tranny plug that went to the auto tranny that controlled the gear selector? A car with an automatic will only start if it is in park or neutral. I remember I had to short some wires to "trick" the car into thinking it was in park.

I also read you need spacers in between the firewall and clutch pedal assembly, so I put them in. I used nuts. This just has to do with how the clutch grabs. I think if you don't use them the clutch will not fully disengage. I don't think it will cause it to not start.

The ECU is deff NOT the issue! I am still running my auto ECU and the car runs great, except for the check engine light on with auto tranny malfunction codes.

I hope you figure it out! Your gonna Love your New car when it done

This link was how I pretty much figured out how to do the whole job.

Re: 5 spd swap almost done, running into issues

Okay not starting ???? Under driver side dash there is a blue wire that goes to relay. If you are looking up it is to the right side near your main relay. The other wires that are in there are 2 white with red stripe wires. The blue wire must see ground in order to start. It is your nuetral safety switch. If you still can't figure it out pm me.

I have a manual ECU as well, but it wont work because of the immobilizer system with the transponder key. I know I could bypass the whole system and get it to work by keeping constant ground to the immobilizer system wire, but where I'm from, I'd rather have the extra theft security. I never had the "red" key to my car so I can't reprogram the new ECU to my transponder code.

I plan on doing the auto to manual ECU conversion by moving the resistor over, but I haven't had a chance to yet.

Re: 5 spd swap almost done, running into issues

quick question you guys, so the car starts now, it was wired to were u dont need to engage clutch to start car. my question is this, how will that affect driving? will my car ever stall at all? cuz u know how if u release clutch in a manual when it standing still and is in gear, the car will just die. so how will it work like this now? if i go from stop to go, do i just clutch in, go into first, clutch all the way out without giving it any gas and be fine?
