Icon14 Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

So after a while diagnosing my 5th gen for infamous idle issues it was none of the usual. I believe i pinpointed it to a intake gasket leak by using the "propane" trick. Im on my way to honda to get my gaskets i ordered, and should be tackling this intake gasket change very soon. Wish me luck!! I hope this fixes my idle.

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

Thanks man ^^. Got all the vacuum lines off and the IM almost all off except the mani ports to the engine side. darn injectors are in the way for the top bolts so i had to use a flex head ratchet and i can get to them now.

Np mine is running rich also but i don't believe i have any leaks. The dealer said i have a high map and thinks my timing is off i've tried spraying cleaner around the intake while running and nothing happens so i don't think i have a leak. hope yours gets fixed

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

I believe mine was running rich quite some time before this was all fixed, i noticed my powerband drop off and when i was running rich and the soot on muffler. Finally after all the diagnosing and checking i figured her all out, She should be all better tomorrow and running like a champ though =]
Thanks!
Same to you man.
As for yours running rich there are some things you can check,02 sensor, dist system and spark delivery, also make sure your putting good gas in her. Im sure youve already checked that just my 2c.

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

What kind of idle problem do u have? Also a word of advice make sure u scrape everything from ur previous gasket of. The first time I ever changed a intake gasket I missed the smallest little piece and when I started up the car it went strat to 4 grand and idled there due to the engine sucking in air from that tiny spot.

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

I was having a surging idle and constant surges while driving, used the propane method to pinpoint a vacuum leak on the intake gasket. It should be all put back together tomorrow when i get my knock sensor, ill let everyone know if its fixed.

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

I also made sure it was anything else. Iac,Fitv, spark, dis, air in coolant, blah blah all the idle issues i made sure she didnt have those. The gasket leak was the only problem i found so im assuming that was it. We will find out tomorrow when i finish her up.

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

Crossing my fingers for you buddy! I had the same problem and changing out the intake mani gasket fixed it for me. She drove beautifully for 200 miles before my ignition distributor went bad. I'm impatiently waiting for the new part to come in the mail. Hopefully it's the only thing keeping her from running....

Re: Going to get intake gasket, hope it fixes idle issues.

Good luck with that gasket, I feel you on the school/work combo. But it's better to have money than not, is it not? :)

When I start my lude, she sometimes struggles a little bit (specially when it's cold and damp), then she surges to around 2k, then idles at 1.3k.
I let her sit for a minute till idle's at 1.1-1.2k then drive off low rpms.
The engine warms up to less than middle of the thermal level gauge within driving the minute and all is well with the world. She idles at 800.

Am I being paranoid? 0.o

Thanks.

Thanks yeah i already went ahead and scraped her clean, I did notice however the intake mani is really dirty inside, i finally got it all clean but i think its time for a "Oil Catch can" so no more oil get in there .

Thanks.
Thanks man i hope it all goes smooth. And yeah its good to have money unfortunately it spends as fast as it gets made, between school/books/food/premium gas/smokes/insurance/loan payment. lol it goes fast! haha .

And nah not really, even before i had my idle issues i would always let my lude warm up before i took her out. My engine take a lil bit to warm up also but i live in a cold climate so thats why.

Thanks for the support though guys, I will do a follow up after shes finished today and let yal know if thats it.
