need some help please ASAP

i have a 1997 honda prelude which now needs a new engine, i found an engine from an automatic prelude same year as mine. but the guy told me that the automatic engines will not fit in the manual prelude because they are diffferent. is this true? if so what would need to be changed inorder to make it fit and approximatley how much would it cost. id really appreciate the help im dying without my prelude i miss it to much and i just wanna have it on the road again. cheers

Yeah auto and manual engines are the same, the transmission is the difference.

Re: need some help please ASAP

Actually, I'm not sure that's true...I seem to remember something about the bell housing being different, so the transmission won't just bolt up. I'll have to look in the 5th gen manual this weekend and see what it says.

Re: need some help please ASAP

Should be the same. Replace the flex plate with the flywheel. Use flywheel bolts. Don't use the ones from the flex plate. They are shorter.

Re: need some help please ASAP

The the engines in the auto Preludes have a different cam that sacrifices some top end power for more low rpm torque that auto transmissions can more effectively use.Of coarse that won't keep you from using it with a 5 speed transmission ,its just that the gearing of the transmission will not be optimized for the engine which you may find frustrating.

It will fit man. I have a jdm H23A and it came out of a automatic accord and I had no problem bolting it up. Good luck.

Re: need some help please ASAP

the main issue you will have is the half shaft. Keep the half shaft from your manual and ditch the half shaft from the auto. they look the same but they are not. I had an automatic and swapped to a 5 spd. everyone told me i didn't need to swap the half shaft so i didn't get one... got the project almost done and then.... yup i needed to buy a 5 spd half shaft. other than that. u r good to go. good luck.
