Best Cold Air Intake?

I would love to purchase a new Cold Air Intake for my new Prelude but not quite sure which is the best, the only thing I think it would have to be is blue, doing all the accents on the car white and blue. So whats some CAI's you guys prefer. I really like Weapon R, but it look like the only color is silver.

Re: Best Cold Air Intake?

paint it if you dont like silver. but the paints gonna flake aftera while, best to leave it like it is and just get a blue coupler and filter. the best cold air intake will bring in the coldest air, at the highest volume and intake velocity possible. design something if nothing on the market satisfies you.

Yeah, I was thinking about just getting a plain silver and getting the blue filter and couplers and everything.

Re: Best Cold Air Intake?

But in your opinion, is AEM worth anything? Or is Weapon R better? Thats pretty much the two I'm stuck between.

OEM with a K&N Drop-In filter will give you the best performance. Fact.

Well unless you're willing to invest in ITB's I guess.

If you're dead set on getting an intake personally I'd check out the AEM V2. Looks and sounds sweet so even if you don't make big gains it'll still make ya smile haha.

I have a full CAI (AEM). I do like it, but have had thoughts of selling it for a V2.

Looks and sounds sweet and loses you power vs. the OEM setup.

It's the truth. Don't waste $300+ on something that is going to lose you power just because it's shiny.

Re: Best Cold Air Intake?

it looses power because of the increased length of piping, get the secret weapon short ram, or attach a aem dryflow filter directly to the throttle body. "cold air" intakes, although drawing in cooler air, are counterproductive due to reduction of cfm caused by all that piping. get a short ram and a velocity stack and make yourself a gutted intake manifold with no butterflies. To make a "cold air" intake that is also short ram at the same time put a cryo2 system on the weapon r secret weapon or something, but the shorter the piping with the least amount of bends with the smoothest inside surface will yeild the biggest increase.

Re: Best Cold Air Intake?

Personally, i don't like any of the big name brand CAI's because they all are pretty close in specs, If you want a good CAI get one fabricated to your liking and spend about 50% less than on a AEM crap CAI trust me i bit the bullet for a fab'd intake and it still delivers about a 15+ hp increase, granted your engine can breath correctly. Hope this helps. And w/e you buy make sure it doesn't stop short to where the filter sit right beside the block, all that does is suck in hot air which is pointless. Run it through the Air flow seal.

Do you remember the 400.00 Grounding kits with volt stabilizers? ROFL!

Get a intercooler kit on ebay, enough piping to run a CAI from the trunk of the car for about 120.00, again, K&N filter. you just need a shield and a remoter location with cold air aplenty. BE different. Type-S Intake/drop-in

Not completely true. You were right about trying to get piping with the least amount of bends, but if your pipe is too short you will only be pulling in hot air which wont help you out any at all.

Icon1 Read my Intake write up before wasting your money

Please consider these points before you waste your money.

1: Your stock intake is a CAI intake .
2:When you consider that a 4cyl engine only has 1 intake runner demanding air at any time combined with the fact that the air intake piping is much larger then any single runner , the stock intake is not restrictive. Some types of intakes can effect the tuning of the engine by raising the engines power band somewhat given a little more top end power at the expense of mid/low rpm torque and throttle response. This is not a good trade off when you have a 4cyl engine trying to move a 3000 lb car.
3:You can somewhat improve throttle response and thus improve mid rpm power by getting a OEM TYPE S intake that uses a 2nd air box just before the throttle body to influence the tunning of the engine air pulses in a positive way. Also when accelerating hard , if you only hold the accelerator pedal down 3/4 to 4/5 of the way until the VTEC engages that also seems to give a boost to mid rpm power.
4:The stock intake has a valve at its input that gives the ecu the ability to tweak the intakes response an effectively tune the intake for the range of rpms your operating at which helps a lot with low/mid rpm power and fuel economy. .No aftermarket intake does that.
5: For a sound that has a lower pitch while not turning your intake into cop
bait, all you need to do is plug the passageway leading to the resonator box thats below the air filter box. Just temporally remove the funnel at the bottom of the air filter box and look down the hole in the bottom to see what needs to be plugged.

Check out this write up below from a UK web site.

Here is where you can get a TYPES S INTAKE.

true, the air will be warmer, but its more air flow. my underhood temps stay relatively cool though, not any different really than having the filter in my fender. but thats just my car, i have a scoop to keep things cool, if you have a super short straight pipe and can somehow cool the incoming air you will have the best combo for the cfm war. but i agree the standard cai is the easiest option. I dont much believe in drop in filters, I dont like air boxes either. Theres something wrong with going from a square box to a round hole, major obstruction there.

Just buying a bunch of bolt ons and installing them isnt gonna get you a lot. i'd buy an ebay intake and a nitrous kit off ebay before i'd buy a 300 dollar intake. you can get them both for the same price as the weapon r or the v2.
