My engine has got some miles and would like to rejuvenate. Do I need to rebuild?

Hi fellas. Here's the thing. I have an oil leak outside which is visible on the ground, and also inside which is visible through my exhaust. I am planning on taking it to the mechanic to get the oil leaks fixed. Well the thing is my engine has 147k on it and it doesn't feel as peppy and strong as it used to. I've never did any in depth maintenance like valve adjustment or fuel injection cleaning. I've just done basic stuff like spark plug change, wires, distributor blah blah blah. This was done about 50k miles ago though. Well my question is to bring my engine back to life should I order a rebuild kit somewhere? Will this solve my leaks and my loss of umph! situation or is that a little to EXTREME for my issues.

Thank You!

Re: My engine has got some miles and would like to rejuvenate. Do I need to rebuild?

Rebuild?

Replace all the oil seals, timing belt, water pump, check the oil pump.

clean the fuel injectors/ ports in the intake manifold

compression test and check the rings on the pistons, replace the valve guides

clean the vtec solenoid, iacv, evap valve

replace your 02 sensors

That's just a quick runthrough of all that you would need to do to "rebuild" the motor. But you could still go so much farther like having everything hot tanked and redo everything from the bottom up

No? Why not? Is it because of the sleeves? I know any other motor can be done...

Re: My engine has got some miles and would like to rejuvenate. Do I need to rebuild?

Update, had a compression and leak down test perform at a performance shop with REAL mechanics. My engine did very well. They only noticed few minor wear on normal stuff under the engine..pcv valve, some o-rings...etc. They did not notice any oil burn to be concerned with. My iridium plugs were fried to bits and was told that I may have seen some bluish smoke from burning gas which is what I was seeing. So they are going to install factory plugs and down gap them just a tad bit. Also he said I had some oil sludge and also I think he said due to this it's a possibility that a piston may be stuck. He's going to take care of that. I baby the car and was told that it's a downtuned race engine so I've got to get run up the rpms time to time to prevent that oil sludge. So... I'm not going to need an engine SWAP like the first RETARD told me. I was told my engine is in good condition with a lot of life left. PEACE!

hahahaha i highhlyyyyy doubt you have a "stuck piston".
if that were actually true, you would most likely have a hole in the side of your engine the size of a softball.

also, did they give you the compression/leakdown numbers?

ha I probably misquoted him on the piston thing.
When he called me regarding compression numbers he said 210psi.

Does that make sense? Sorry dude, I'm not much of a mechanic lol.

210 is VERY good, i wouldn't be worried about a thing. it woulda been nice if he told you all 4 cylinders, i.e. 212-210-209-211.

each cyclinder should have a compression test result.

did the mechanic say something like 210psi on all cyclinders?

210 is fantastic. I'd be surprised if my tired old mule gave me 150's. We shall find out soon, lol.

I'll find out later, but I do remember him saying 210psi...so that must have been what he meant.

Re: My engine has got some miles and would like to rejuvenate. Do I need to rebuild?

Okay dudes, got my car back!

The compression test results were 212, 212, 212, 210.

They changed:
Distributor o-ring
V/Cover gasket
PCV
Cylinder Head Seal
Valve filter
PCV grommet
Oil change
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires

I get my oil changes at a major oil change shop (VIP). The mechanic asked me who does my changes because the oil filter looked like it was spun on until it stopped. No wonder I was losing and burning oil!

I started the car and my check engine and ATT lights went away. Haven't taken it for a good drive yet but will later!
